What can be done to help prevent the nursing shortage?

I am all for raising taxes as long as they are actually ending up in the budget for hiring more nurses, and/or increasing nurses hourly pay.

We either all chip in slightly each year - or we pay for it when we can't get treatment when we need it because there is no one trained who is not already busy - and most of us will need to hospital 1-3 times+ in our lives On avg

I think with all these immigrants coming into USA, time to train them up. they want to work, they just need training. Many would have the demeanor to be nurses and hard work ethic.

In terms of losing nurses, gotta take some of the stress and load off so more balanced life. Probably have to model after teachers in terms of compensation/time off etc..

nurses get paid a lot of money and there is plenty of money available, just not enough nurses, so they're getting traveling nurses and nurses from all over the world to come to the U. S.

Hire more nurses and pay less per hour to make up the difference. That way 2 nurses can work 7 hours instead of one nurse working 14 hours.

I like the idea of splitting the hrs and splitting the pay at the same rate though. It seems like too many nurses chose to commit to unsustainable hrs for extra pay they can't actually maintain and burn themselves out.

Mot times politicians say vote for me I will raise your taxes and fix our healthcare system most people in the community don't vote for them and prioritize short term political spending rather than ling term projects that would actually. solve the problem all so they can have a tiny bit more now and don't think about the massive debt they will have to pay back as a country later.

Or the insane debt their friends family and grandkids will have to seriously pay back later with a much larger portion of their income going to taxes in future years to meet minimum payments the governments owe to the banks for the money the banks are lending them now based on what people keep asking for without wanting to pay back most of it in the same year now.

Hospitals have smaller number of staff members to take care of the same number of patients. Nurses get burned out after a while.

Governments take huge chicks for themselves and for corruption. Less of those, more of our tax money going into medical care. Higher taxes only helps the greedy.

yes, there are plenty of nurses that got fired during covid and left the profession altogether.

@exitseven And many more not entering the field. The nursing programs are no longer full and students have to be fully shot. I think it's preventing a lot of people from enrolling. The schools were mandating it, but even the schools that allow for religious exemptions are losing nursing students because the facilities where the students complete their clinics aren't giving exemptions.
