I believe most people are peaceful but fear for their lives because of the media constantly showing the violence. My personal opinion is simple. If you have been combat trained, then you have a better chance of retaining your firearm in a violent confrontation.
As a trained sniper I can and have had to take down someone that was trying to kill me. It's not a pleasant experience, and not one that just anyone can deal with, especially when not in a war zone.
I no longer have any guns nor have I found the need for one. They are dangerous for the uninitiated, and I had two children to raise after Vietnam. They didn't need to have that kind of training.
If you have the fear that your government will come after you, unprovoked, then you need to live in another country. If you feel you need a gun to protect yourself, you are living in the wrong neighborhood.00 Reply

I/we don't. Never had a need and I really don't want one in the house with my kids around. I'd enjoy owning one to go to the range occasionally, though.

+1 yDozens of them, the reason is self defense when in public, hiking, and home defense.
Why so many? well there are different styles and kinds...9 mil, 40, 45, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, etc...
Beyond that, its fun to go in my backyard and stack up a bunch of cans and blow them away or anything old that you want destroyed. Not only is it good practice for how to clean and maintain them.
It also helps to maintain the skills to aim and shoot better, this is a skill that if you don't practice, you start to lose some skills in it.
It also uses up older ammo, to avoid it from getting too old. Which is more of a issue if you live in humid area's, vs. where I am in a dry climate.
I often carry two in public, as open carry is legal here, also conceal carry is legal too without a permit, as long as it is two steps away from being able to fire. With a permit you can be instantly ready to fire.

Forgot to mention that police are anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes away when calling, on average for me it has been closer to 90 minutes.

That could go in the wrong hands and i could die or someone under my responsibility could. Sooo i'm gonna get me a byrna, a pepper ball gun. :D Comes as a pistol, and an ak-47 style. I don't know why I need a 47 but some people need to learn I am not fucking around with my life. :D

A pepper gun is good in theory. But in a high stress, high speed environment, can you actually hit them enough to incapacitate them, long enough for cops to arrive? If you miss, all you did was piss them off. At least with a gunshot you might alert a neighbor. I know a pepper wouldn't detet me if I wanted to cause harm. Of anything, it would make me shoot you before I do anything else

+1 yI don't see any reason to get a gun.
Best case scenario its spending a lifetime in a safe.
Worst case scenario someone gets injured or killed.03 Reply- +1 y
Yeahh, i don't think such a situation is going to happen.
1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yes. Some for hunting, some for pest control, some for sport, some because they are cool, and some to keep fear in the hearts of local criminals.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yYes. I’m a female and small in stature. Firearms are a great equalizer. The world is a crazy place because of the people in it and I carry one for my own protection. It’s as simple as that.

Agree, I've seen rifles, shotguns etc., for hunting purposes and I've seen cops carrying Glocks, but, I have never in my life seen someone who wasn't law enforcement with a handgun. Not even security guards carry handguns.
