With the China+1 policy being implemented by many MNCs, India really stood a chance of attracting them to set up manufacturing plants in India. But India lost it to Vietnam and other competitors.
India definitely has the required potential, but the time is being wasted in politics and other things.
In fact, I just realised that, my generation is the exact generation that The States had after WWII. That generation which believes in living to fullest, rather than saving for the future, for the majority of their income. That generation where the young are the customers, rather than the actual earners.
It took freaking ~75 years for India to reach here. That is a really really long time. It literally means that we are about 70 to 75 years from becoming The States in the present.
Of course, with social media and globalisation, this process will definitely get accelerated to just 25 to 30 years. But still, even that is a long time.
Right now, India is just a market for FDIs and others to make money. I don't see it becoming a superpower anytime soon.
It is still a good country though, I am its citizen, and I am proud of it.
It is just, the female safety problem should get solved. And we are quite good! As a guy, it worries me. Multiple times.
There are amazing Indian users here as well. I am lucky I guess. I feel lucky at the least.

India does have the 5th largest economy but its completely dependent on cheap labor, it has modernised its industry. Automation is making a lot of labor jobs obsolete. We are starting to see a lot of industry return to the west that b4 was given out to China and India because a robot can do the exact same thing better for much less. Look after the huge car factories in south korea, a handful of workers overseeing robots. Where does the money the Indian economy generates end up? It doesn't end up invested in infrastructure or modernised of industry it ends up in the hands of a small minority who hoard it. You might point at how India has more millionaires and billionaires than anywhere else but that really illustrates the extremeness of the poverty gap in India where a billionaire has a skyscraper as his home built in a slum.
You might brag with pride about indians in America or elsewhere earning big in STEM fields and as doctors etc but that just means the US is creaming off India's best and brightest who never return home with their money except to find a wife

Unless somehow a massive war happens which we all just come out dandy except countries are now just in different levels of power, any country cannot just surpass the already super powers leading the world kinda the point. Otherwise a Super power would be useless. In the past Empires fell all the time but that's thanks to war and instability these days no one wants to commit to that cause nukes exist, and instability is unlikely.
So the only way to lead these days is to be the producer aka China, the supplier aka Russia, the demander aka USA. Countries are winning capitalism and the thing about capitalism is the rich will only get richer meanwhile the poor stay poor.
Brazil for example ain't just gonna become modernised wealthy country within the next 20 years nvm a super power it's just gonna stay more or less the same. Same way USA has always been wealthy.

Brazil has basically all the same resources and potential the US had, the difference is the mass corruption and Oligarchal system. When we had our independence we got rid of the aristocrats, in their revolution the aristocrats took control.
The Indian Army on paper is larger but its much less well equipped and trained.
There are probably 2 million indians in Britain who are doing quite well and probably have no intention of ever returning to India, so as Britain is a very free and equal society its not surprising they have an Indian PM. 2 million is like the population of many small countries, think Ireland has only about 4-5 million people their prime minister is a gay Indian called Leo Varadkar.
Taken as a whole the EU is a probably the largest economy in the world. Germany has massive industrial capacity, France is probably the 2nd strongest military in the world and a major exporter of military arms.
GDP of the EU is $16.6 trillion, GDP of India is India: $2.66 trillion, GDP of Britain is $2.67. And that is with providing better housing, job conditions, wages healthcare, household plumbing, public toilets, running water, electricity etc which India struggles with.
The GDP of Germany and France goes into investing in other EU member states building infrastructure which will pay off in the long run for all.
