+1 yUtter nonsense. Indians built this country; the Europeans just expanded into it after disease wiped out 90% of the native population. We didn't prosper just because the land is rich and far away from anyone willing and able to harm us; a HUGE amount of land-clearing and infrastructure was already in place. Given how little is known about most of the Indian civilizations, I suppose it's possible that some or even most of that was done by slaves (or slave-analogues), but it sure as hell wasn't the ancestors of whiny entitled black people perpetually mired in self-righteous indignance. It wasn't MY definitively non-black slave ancestors, either, but I'm guessing Disney's not going to acknowledge that. Picking cotton and dropping from malaria doesn't get cities built, let alone countries.
Hell, even the Chinese have a better claim, since railroad labor was what made us a COUNTRY, rather than just a confederation. Actually, that had a large number of black laborers, too- and Irish. But acknowledging and making restitutions for THAT atrocity would mean admitting it's about wealth, not race or sex or religion, and pretty much burning at the stake anyone caught using Amazon. I don't see that happening.
Come to think of it, if Disney wants to give slavery and its legacy proper due, why do they still hide Song of the South?

@exitseven Yes, but we had "the country" before those things existed. I suppose if you mean "the country as it currently stands", then yes, of course it was Americans. But slaves didn't build skyscrapers or superhighways, either.
Interestingly, I've read that many early skyscrapers WERE built (in part) by Indians, since they culturally had no fear of heights (I have no idea how that would be CULTURAL, but that's what I've read). Obviously that was in the modern era, though.

You are NOT your father much-less your great-great-grandfather. You are no more entitled to the fruits of his labor than you are guilty of his crimes. It is also a compete violation of the constitution to pass such an ex-post facto law.

Ik at the library with no head phones so Iโm not watching the clip but yes forces enslaved peoples labor was exploited in field production agriculture & Infrastructure (not limited to African American enslaved peoples, but predominantly) through the land including the White House.
Today, 167 countries still have some form of modern slavery, which affects an estimated 46 million people worldwide. Currently, there are 19 states with constitutions that explicitly permit either slavery, involuntary servitude, or both as punishment for a crime.
Mass incarceration, and the criminalization of poverty, is modern-day slavery in the United States. Nearly two million incarcerated people in the United States have no protection from legal slavery. A disproportionate percentage of them are Black and people of color.

For that, just look at what's marketed to those demographics. Marketing debasement yields subcultural debasement. Subcultural debasement leads to ethnic statistical probability of wrongdoing escalating. This skewers the results so that more non-whites in general commit crimes. More to that, they're more likely to get careless regarding how they commit crimes, meaning they get caught more easily.
As a guy who was in jail with D'Souza said: "Smart criminals win elections. It's the stupid ones that go to jail."
Where this can really show, is in Florida. DeSantis cracking down on pedo teachers is but scraping a little off the tip of a humongous iceberg that is everything wrong with Florida's education system. Which only functions because of the retirees from up north fed up with the corruption up north, who bring their kids that were bankrupted due to all the corruption down with them. Those kids get a fresh start, and become the brains keeping the state afloat. But due to being from everywhere, can't always find someone to unite with that shares enough common subculture to coalesce a bond around. And then there's the locals, who are woefully deprived and mistrusting.
When the state-funded local colleges have an IT department with almost zero computer tech, and no beginner's courses on teaching students even the most basic things about IT, and are ready to hire you off the street simply for knowing what a virtual machine is... that's a small sample of how much Florida education struggles. Which should help you understand why most of the weirdest crimes happen in Florida.
Complete nonsense. Slaves were a small percent of the population and, like most people, contributed little more than what was necessary to survive.

No. Settlers coming from Europe who settled on frontier land built this country. They did it all at great risk. Slaves built the wealth of plantation owners.

The slaves didn't build anything. The Southern economy was not strong enough to even win the war against the poor North. The expansion and construction of the United States occurred after the Civil War and was driven by the White North and European immigrants, especially Germans, Italians, Irish and Poles. Until the 1940s, as stated in the Myrdal report, African Americans were considered only a useless burden that had lost its usefulness decades ago, i. e. with the end of the slave regime in the southern USA.10 Reply3.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. False, one could agree slavery built some states but not all, one could argue slavery built the south that is true. But that maybe 11 states Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. one could argue that slavery build Alaska, but those were white slaves enslaved by the Russian Nordic Swedish Ukrainian etc not African slaves. Most escape to Washington, and Oregon. But no the entire United States was not built by slaves.
10 Reply12K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. We have generations taught communist propaganda and nonsense. The original British and western European settlers built supported by waves of other Irish, Scottish, Polish and Italian immigrants. Even a few Russians and Eastern Europeans. Amerindians built very little due to continual tribal warfare and admittedly bad mistreatment by the settlers. African slaves didn't build the nation either even if they were compelled to work on it. The fact is that western European invented and built almost everything, although East Asians and Desi are now part of that creative power. Except for the Communist Chinese, we should open the door to both.

+1 yI disagree. Only 10% of African slaves came to the U. S. Most of them were sent to the Caribbean and South America. The plantation economy wasn't that big here. The Whites and the Chineses contributed the most by setting up a government and building infrastructure. I seriously doubt that the people who build the most beautiful cities on earth, sailed the globe and mapped the cosmos, needed a bunch of primitive jungle dwelling Africans to built their country
10 Reply It was a team effort. I hate when we compare our ancestors' suffering. Everyone thinks their ancestors had the worst of it. . . truth is, every oppressed ethnic group struggled and contributed in different ways to their society. Quantifying their struggle or contribution relative to other groups is merely a way to keep us divided.
00 Reply532 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. They forcibly participated in the process... but slaves them sleeves did not build it alone. But their contributions were note worthy.
Now one can say their descendants are trying to rebuild or reimage the country... and they are actually being very successful about it.

Exactly right. Well said.
It's kind of true, but it's such dishonest framing. Saying that slaves built this country is like saying construction workers should get all the credit for building skyscrapers because architects just draw the things.
Like... no... I really wish we would stop bullshitting people in this country.
00 ReplyItโs oversimplifying history to the point of caricature.
New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and others were largely built by immigrants, Irish especially, and their children and grandchildren.

10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No. Slaves harvested cotton and other crops in a limited area of the country for the most part. They certainly did not build the country.
13 Reply- +1 y
@VIVANT of course there were cases in which they built things, but yet again these were concentrated in the South and even there they were a tiny minority of the people who built infrastructure. This is because slave ownership was concentrated on privately-owned agricultural operations. The 1619 Project and similar rewriting of history is full of lies.

@VIVANT
All over the country is a stretch. North of the Mason Dixon line, slavery was outlawed. Both owning them and using them. Once they crossed that line they were free so long as they werenโt apprehended under the fugitive slave laws.

If you read the history of this, it's interesting. Africans weren't the first try at making slaves. They tried people from many countries and islands. They flat out refused to be slaves, so they were killed.
I've asked this question online (of course not this site) "Why did slaves bring babies into the world?"
Wow, that ruffles some feathers. They said that it's because they figured that slavery would end, and the kids would have a chance. I'm not buying that for a minute. So now Disney is pedaling their crap about white supremacy. There are more slaves now in Africa, then there ever were in the US.

21 Reply- +1 y
Picking cotton is an important part of building a country because it provides jobs and supports the economy. Cotton is a versatile and essential crop in many countries and it is used in everything from clothing to food. By picking cotton, workers are able to support their families and the countryโs economy by providing a valuable resource. Additionally, the money generated from selling cotton is used to fund other industries such as healthcare, education and infrastructure. Ultimately, picking cotton is an important part of building a country.

All black led countries are dirt poor and disorganized, and those that have a bit of success is because the white men helped, not because the black men figured it out on their own. - +1 y
