Good and bad are only constructs of our human condition. Nature sees homicide rates daily that will melt your morals and that is just breakfast. 1 in 25 are sociopaths, 1 in 100 psychopaths, more or less, but successful and prolific pathologists are rarer still. Is it possible that our perceptions of good or evil cause more good or evil than we express in reality? Great question, especially now. I have met murderous saints and virtuous thieves, everyone a victim before a predator. Humanity is a lifelong pursuit fraught with trials and errors. The movie Machine Gun Preacher comes to mind, we can live the lives of both in one lifetime.
Right your way of saying people live in the grey. But what I’m saying is that is there more good than bad in humanity. Do people preform acts of kindness which is objectively good than acts of malice which is objectively bad.
I try to avoid answering this one because personally, I think our humanity is dictated to us by some of the least humane among us. I think class represents the degree to which one is separated from nature and therefore. Their humanity. I think there is more negative traits of humanity in urban areas and more nurturing forms of humanity closer to nature.
Right now, I am pessimistic about our humanity and I believe tech is the cause. Take the internet offline for a year, lets see if peoples human condition improves.
Ahh I misunderstand here actually sorry. I think our humanity is good. But I think it is easily led astray and becomes bad. This gives us reason to do more good. Its a cycpe to my mind.
How could the internet effect humanity if all the internet does is amplify what we already had before the internet?
And the whole nature thing is a fallacy. I would even argue that nature is far more violent than society. Because society teaches you how to care and take of each other and in nature you’re fending for yourself.
1. Algorithms are no friemd of humanity.
2. That was my original point, nature is merciless, but it is also where we learned to care for eachother and build society and civilization.
I fend for myself a lot, I live really far north. Its remote, I couod have a bias lol. Do you think our humanity is good or bad?
Probably both like Yin and Yang. But it’s progressively getting better as society becomes more educated. I think an uncivilized world is terrifying.
100% agree with you there. The Dalai Lama talks about intelligence being tied to compassion. Stupidity is cruel, enlightenment is compassion.
Unfortunately the hard truth is , there's more bad people than good people in the world. Just look around you, humans are very evasive and destructive.
