In my country any officer picturing themselves like that would get a sanction, if not the sack.
The police deputy of my town narrowly missed being discharged because she published a picture of herself in a thong on Facebook. I defended her with the prefecture but I still privately suggested a demotion in rank, which took place. She got back her rank as deputy a year later, doesn't know I asked for her demotion.
For reference, she got demoted from First Deputy upload.wikimedia.org/.../...ntesceltolombardia.png to simple Deputy upload.wikimedia.org/.../Assistentelombardia.png
I had reccomended she'd get demoted to First agent...

What country are you talking about?
Autonomous province of the Lakes, Lombardy.
I'm mayor of a small town and vice Secretary of the provincial council.
When you say "picturing themselves like that. . ." what specifically do you mean/what are your criteria?
Indecent, morally compromising situation.
And that's a morally indecent picture for an officer in uniform.
Plus the bikinis have your country's flag colors - here it would be considered desecration of national colors.
"Morally compromising"
Can this be interpreted differently from person to person? In other words, is it more subjective rather than objective? Context matters I'm sure or at least it is a factor in determining consequences.
Also, I'm not an officer, so I'm not sure if that makes any difference in any manner.
Scantily-clad women = morally compromising.
I see a military uniform, so either you are a military officer, non commissioned officer or enlisted.
Update - real or edited, in my opinion it's still inappropriate.
Our countries are different, as well as our cultures, military, etc.
What seems inappropriate to you, will not always be inappropriate for other people in differing countries, militaries, etc.
I understand the photo, but I know vets who still get upset when they see well meaning people wearing the flag as clothing. I'm not a vet and I'm not particularly fond of seeing the flag under someone's feet as flip flops or in this case, under their crotch or between their butt cheeks.
That's just my opinion, but given that you are the one putting your life out there for the flag and for me, I am just grateful to you and not offended.
I don't think a young person should get in trouble for something like this although I wouldn't say it is super appropriate, if young people in the military got in trouble for stuff like this, there would be nobody left in the military lol. If a 50yo general posted something like this, I would expect he'd get in trouble for it. JMO!
Just the opposite, if anything- if, as they claim, the military is "defending the rights of the citizenry", then exercising those rights is a sign of both gratitude and faith in the military, no?
Of course, that assumes it's US military personnel. If it's, say, a Russian soldier, then it's... well, it's probably against some stupid regulation or other, but it's also a LOT funnier.

Doesn't look inappropriate to me.
Inappropriate! The gals are obviously in the picture for sex appeal, especially with the exposure in the wide opening at the tops. And military personnel should not be showing themselves in uniform in sexually aimed photos. They can get in trouble for that, and you could get in trouble for altering an image placing them there.
I don't consider the photo itself to be inappropriate. Nobody forced the women in the background to pose in swimwear. Some may find the flag theme on the swimwear inappropriate for flag protocol, but as long as it's not made from an actual flag it's not considered a breach of flag etiquette. Prolific social media presence is more of a concern with the military than anything else.
Is it appropriate for military personnel to be close proximity to girls wearing bikinis? Yes I think so.
Is it appropriate for female military personnel to wear bikini's with a patriotic motif? Only when on vacation is my thought. There are obvious OHS issues.
Is it appropriate for military personal to pose with a plastic representation of their national animal? I hope it is plastic and not a stuffed one. Depends on what they are doing with is my first thought
I personally don't think it is inappropriate. I feel it is perfectly funny and patriotic given the timeframe of it.
Unfortunately DoD may not see it as such.
is ok, that's what we are fighting for, WWII bombers had similar.
may not go over well in saudi arabia or such in middle east
I'm actually very offended. This is a disgrace to the USA!
You should have a cigar in your mouth, some aviator glasses and your middle finger up
It's obvious that the picture was edited, and see nothing wrong with it.
How about the women in the background being in swimwear? How do you find that?
Patriotic AF. And that's pretty rare these days.
I'm glad it's suppose to be funny cause you got me 😂
It was mostly the eagle tho lol
The eagle is the best part.
Better than the ones with rainbows and shit.
Well, I think it's pretty tacky but and unprofessional, and borderline copyright infringement...
But I think that about sums up the US military
I donāt think so. But I work with lawyers who have to run all adverts by the bar association. And other regulated industries. So maybe your CO might have issues.
But I guess it depends on how you use.
Nice headā¦is that addition for the prostrate?
I think it's funny. ... and the chicks are hawt.
Lol the people in the opinions obviously donāt know military humor.. they should watch VetTv⦠this is awesomeā¦
It's not professional but as long as It's not a pic for professional purposes I suppose It's your free time to spend as you wish.
Why would you get in trouble? Are you in trouble now?
I've never been in trouble.
Then you don't need to worry.
Walking the line. The eagle was a nice touch
itās inappropriate if you didnāt service the women behind you after the pic.
I feel like itās sexualizing women (probs didnāt spell that right)
Nope, it is funny haha
It's not appropriate it just looks stupid.
Very meme worthy. 👏 No problems here. 🤣
Are you patriotic at all?🤔😂
It's very creative.
I can't see a reason why.
I like the swim wear
well that's fucking retarded
Did they serve too?
I guess
Do you want to elaborate more?
Seems like an unsure/vague answer.
Looks fine to me.
Hell no! I like it.
Hi hi hi
Nope
