That's simple... fear! Humans are bounded by their emotions and they know that. I think we could readup on Hitler and his team to see how they controlled people.

Humans have not evolved at all emotionally. there was a brief attempt back 2000 years ago to reprogram them and set them free... but they are easily subjected to the power of the world that contains their physical body, suffering and death... which eventhough they have a spiritual solution to, they don't like. In that are all the emotions that limit them.

There is some validity to this government behavior though... for the right of a few can negatively impact everyone else. Officials are there to protect! Think Terrorists, the risk of sappers during wartime, the security of a community when Katrina survivors were trying to escape... confronted by police, for fear! It comes down to... security but the essence of what is wrong is separation, which creates insecurity... fear ontop a mound of sadness.

We both know my neighbor has a right to mount a 50cal out their bedroom window directly towards the road and at my house, for his security. No constitutional questions there. Problem is, it creates problems for me, even if he just makes a mistake.

So thereinis the biggest F'up in the constitution... the obligation to be a responsible citizen.

Because as George Carlin explained, rights are imaginary constructs that don't mean anything in the face of reality. We tolerate governments because they offer protection and allow for the existence of civilized society. True freedom is savagery.

That of course doesn't mean we should go along with everything a government decrees. We need to be constantly vigilant and distrustful of the government, as they can and will take advantage of you if you allow them to. After all, governments are comprised of free men. Which as we previously established are savages unfit for civilized society.

Simple truth is, people don't mind giving up rights they have no plans of ever using or will never use.

Things such as gun control, if they don't own guns and never will. They have no issues with gun control, because it won't affect them.

They also think security is more important than rights, they want to feel save and on top of that they want the government to take care of them because life is too hard.

Many also think in their own narrow world view. Someone who lives in a big city with police 2 mins out no matter what when they call, will see no point in self defense or guns but they are literally incapable of seeing the world through a rural persons point of view.

As such, many people can't see beyond their own front door. Politicians are the same, they pass laws and policies that work great in big cities but terrible in rural America. The same could said in reverse though, things that work great in rural America would be terrible in big cities.

They try the one size fits all approach too much. When things should be tailored more on the local level and less on the federal level. States are more in touch with how things should work in their boundaries and even counties and cities even more so.

The more local control, the more rights we retain. The more federal control, the more we lose.

You've identified the key issue. The problems of the country are not the problems of the city, but one has a massively more populated voting bloc, thus the people who feed them and dispose of their trash always lose. I say a farm and landfill strike is in order; starve the cities and let them choke on their trash until they see things the way they should be, or at least agree to separate spheres of influence and legislative authority.
