Why are conservatives so obsessed with supporting Israel?

Because they were our allies. We no longer need them, but it would be wrong to stop liking them. My plan would be to offer all non-criminal Israelis citizenship to America. Then we can go in and carpet bomb the infrastructure of Israel. Then the Palestinians can enjoy a bigger hunk of sand.

But that's not going to happen. Iran is days away from refining weapon grade Uranium. Iran doesn't have the delivery system, but Russia will gladly sell them the system. Their ICBMs will be able to reach any target on the planet. I don't know who will turn Iran into molten glass, first, but I'm guessing Israel will be the ones to do it.

Because it makes sense to prop up the one democratic country in the Middle East- they may not be very GOOD at democracy, but hey, at least they're trying.

Also, many American conservatives embrace a branch of Christianity that thinks Israel needs to be a standing country so it can be wiped off the map at the end of the world in the immediate aftermath of the battle of Armageddon. They're not very good with that whole "history" thing.

Well, let's take a look, shall we? In alphabetical order: Bahrain- monarchy. Egypt- theocracy thanks to the coup. Iran- theocracy. Iraq- jumbled mess lead by theocratic strongmen. Israel- half-assed democracy. Jordan- monarchy. Kuwait- monarchy. Lebanon- former democracy, current sectarian nightmare that dwarfs even Israel's. Oman- monarchy. Palestine- theocracy wearing the skin of a democracy. Qatar- monarchy. Saudi Arabia- monarchy. Syria- dictatorship. UAE- monarchy. Yemen- briefly a democracy, but collapsed into a Islamist civil war during the Arab Spring that's still going on a decade later. The only other democracy in the area is Turkey, and Erdogan's twenty-year reign and ever-increasing Islamist policies make that "democracy" assertion kinda dubious. Israel's by the best of the available options.

Oh, I understand it just fine; the problem is that the part where that's actually TRUE is missing. Even if it weren't, however- look at its neighbors. Unless you're going to simply glass the whole region, you have to find SOMEONE to get along with, and the country that 1. owes the US, politically, and 2. everyone else in the region LOATHES makes a perfect choice.
