The Democratic Party originated with Andrew Jackson. The party was pro-slavery, anti-education, and focused on the lower classes. It protected state rights over national rights and sought the expansion of slavery into new states.

Republican party was founded in opposition to Democrats, united out of the remnants of the Whigs and other anti-Democrats. Originally, Anti Slavery, Pro big business, industrialization , public spending, and federal government.

In the civil rights era, the Democratic party openly adopted the civil rights platform under JFK and LBJ.

The Republican party leaned more into its business-supporting and the Democrats became more of a social-issues party.

However, most on both sides are owned by the wealthy and corporations that fund the PACs that funnel money to them. It is party over people. They seem to have no issue accepting vast amounts of money from corporations instead of protecting the interests of their constituency.
