You are correct that in practical terms, a sentence of 3,000 years in prison is essentially a life sentence, since it far exceeds the normal human lifespan. In the United States, sentences are typically calculated in years, with judges determining the number of years a defendant will serve based on the severity of their crime and other factors.
In cases where a defendant is sentenced to a term of imprisonment that exceeds their expected lifespan, the sentence is often seen as symbolic, serving as a message to society that the crime committed was particularly heinous or deserving of severe punishment. The sentence may also serve to ensure that the defendant is never released from prison, even if they were to somehow survive beyond their expected lifespan.
It's important to note that sentencing laws and practices can vary widely from state to state and from country to country, and that the use of extremely long sentences is not universally accepted or practiced. In some jurisdictions, for example, sentences may be limited by law to a certain number of years or may be subject to review after a certain period of time. Ultimately, the goal of sentencing is to balance punishment and rehabilitation, and to ensure that justice is served in a fair and consistent manner.
Sometimes prisoners can get a reduced sentence for good behavior or for informing on other criminals when it leads to a conviction. When you have a 3,000 year sentence, there's not much you can do to whittle that down. The point is that the crimes he committed were so horrendous, that they want him to die in jail regardless of how he behaves from this point forward.
When he dies, he is cremated or burred. The ridiculous sentence only proves that most American are stupid and act on emotions; not logic.
I don’t like in the USA but this doesn’t make sense to me as well. I think the should have just said life without parole.
I don’t live

It's multiple crimes, each with a predefined sentence. All the sentences add up. Also, if a conviction for one of the crimes is overturned, they stay in prison. If 90% of the convictions are over turned, they still stay in prison.
Over 13,000 felony counts? How the hell do they even count that many?
It's really just a technicality. It's the same as saying "You're never getting out"
It’s being overly dramatic to try to add fake severity and gravitas to what was done.
We’ll put you in jail for 500 years!!!
Sorta like how they fined Alex Jones over one billion dollars. It’s laughable and utterly ridiculous.
I don't understand why they're going to keep him in jail at all!! If he's never getting out, fry his worthless ass!! Look at how much money they'll save by NOT keeping him alive all those decades!!
Exactly it doesn’t make sense. They can do lethal injection for him.. that’s why I’m
asking what’s the point of 3,000 years !! It’s not like when he dies they will keep him “locked” it’s stupid. He needs to either get an injection and die OR give him a regular jail time till death. Not a 3,000 years. I’m sure even this prisoner is laughing with this sentence at his jail. Because He is lucky he is alive after all..
Anything longer than average life expectancy, fry him!! He's NEVER gonna get out, anyway! It's like keeping a piece of meat in the fridge so long that it still went bad but, instead of getting rid of it for good, you keep it in the fridge for the rest of your life! ESPECIALLY if that's the ONLY thing IN the fridge!! All that electricity you've wasted to keep that in the fridge for 50 or 60 years1
After he dies they dispose of him. He will do the remainder in the sentence in the afterlife tossing salad 😏
It's just grandstanding and headline catching.
He'll get a lesser sentence on appeal, and will be out in a few years regardless.
I don't understand it either.
Someone should cut his throat and throw him away.
Then you’re too stupid to get it and should worry about your nails.
It means Pennsylvania no longer does capital punishment. But, at least he’ll die in prison. 🙄
Cremated and build a wall, they have done before
it's symbolic
