Do you believe affirmative action is real?

One debate I often get into is whether affirmative action is a real thing, and whether or not it is a good thing (if one admits it is real).

So, to define affirmative action (in practice): it is to give greater opportunity to non-White/ non-Asian people in college admissions & hiring.

The question is, do you think this exists (not whether you believe it is right/ wrong; although, you can add that in there).

Many people think Affirmative Action was done away with; others simply replace the term with Holistic or Racial Conscious admissions. What do you think?

Just like nepotism, it causes more problems, when wrongly done.

But to be honest, if you're in a position and it required affirmative action to diversify, then you failed at your job anyway.

This is the problem most fail to understand. You CANNOT have a good team if all you have are White guys, Black guys, just guys or whatever. You need a good spectrum talent and background of merit to ensure you're getting good output.

This is one reason a lot of Western jobs are getting outsourced.

That doesn't make any sense.
Why can you not have a good team if you have all white guys? Was the German Wehrmacht not an effective team? What about the Manhattan project? Apple, Microsoft, Ford, Etc? Aside from the birthrate Japan and China are far better "teams," including the smaller "teams" therein. I don't believe a team has to be diverse to be good, and I'd argue that homogeneous teams struggle far less interpersonally than "diverse" teams.

Also, why would "Western jobs [being] outsourced" be proof that diverse teams work better? Aren't Western countries the most diverse countries on earth? By your logic they'd then be the best teams and countries would be outsourcing to us.

Yes, I was an IT manager at a college. I sometimes hired new technicians for the department. I was told by HR that if there was a minority that was qualified I had to hire that person regardless of how good the other candidates were. So yes, affirmative action is real.

I believe you. I spoke to the DEI department at my last University and asked what exactly they do to "advocate for diversity." They told me they generate reports for every department in the university (with where they sit demographically) next to the population of people in the state, next to the theoretical people who are qualified for the job. Goals are derived from this (ofc more diversity).

Sure it exists. Colleges make conscious efforts to diversify college admissions. Many employers, as well as government agencies have policies in place to ensure diversity in hiring and promotional practices. You may not see the strict quota systems of the past that people tend to associate with affirmative action but policies that promote equality are a direct result.

I not sure if it dose are not. I know that women are pick over men for engineering jobs and men are pick over women for nursing jobs. they do this to equal the fields. So if affirmative action is real them I think it just there to help Asian and black people get jobs more equal. I think that is a good thing as long as it dose not over step it place.

Tbh it is reverse racism. For hundreds of years whites compacted and harnessed all the wealth. So now we need laws to say “hey, he’s not your color but hire him.”

"Reverse racism" isn't a thing, it's simply racism. Reverse racism implies that racism by default comes only from white people, so if someone discriminates against them it's upsetting (i. e. reversing) the default direction. There is no default direction; racism is racism.

You improperly conflate labor with wealth. Sub-Saharan Africans by in large had no wealth- they had labor, and white countries did utilize this labor to develop/ maintain the agricultural foundation. However, wealth wasn't developed until the Industrial Revolution, which by in large was created and facilitated by WHITE people.

We "need" laws to discriminate against 20-30 year old white people (born 150 years after slavery ended, ended by white people) to give preference to 20-30yo black people (born long after any systemic discrimination)? That's an interesting perspective...

I’m just describing it but yea it’s racism. Unfortunately we fight fire with fire because there’s no magic pill that will work. Even with AA, black sounding names on resumes or loan applications are trashed twoce as much. PROVEN,

The government was forced to hire someone less qualified because of quotas. If affirmative action does nothing for you then why do freeloading blacks and democrats insist on keeping it?
