Do you believe there is such thing as positive discrimination?

“Positive discrimination” seems like an oxymoron to me.

What does it seem like to you?

This has been explained to me and it made sense according to my personal observations.
Positive stereotype: black people are good at sports.
But some aren’t and even if they are, not all black people want to play sports competitively. Some of those kids getting athletic scholarships really just want a college education. And black people who aren’t good at sports might feel shame for being “less than” their peers.
Chris Rock includes an episode of “Everybody Hates Chris” in which he becomes basketball team captain because he’s the only black kid in skool. He accepts the appointment because he wants to be popular and kool, but he sucks at basketball and eventually makes a fool of himself in front of all the people he wants to impress.

Since my background is economy and finance, absolutely!

Discrimination in my trade is neither good nor bad and it mostly depends on context.

The most succesful forms are things like Coupons, different prices for tickets for elderly or children and alike. These are all discrimination. You are giving unfair treatment to someone and not to someone else. Good or bad.

However society accepts it because it is largely benign. You don't really mind that some people collected coupons or that the kid got into the show for half price. Or a hundred other clever discriminatory practices. For businesses this is a big deal because they are profitable at a lower pricetag too but still want to sell at a higher one. Or maybe they want access to the large group of parents for their restaurant and accept a loss on the kids that is earned back on the adults.

There is of course all kinds of these mostly beneficial practices. Including racial, gender and other variants. It is not by default wrong but like any tool can be misused.

No. Discrimination is protection of individuals who fear competition. You could call it from another side nepotism and this is a thing that destroys societies, worldwide.

Discrimination is a preference. It can be applied to good or I'll. I discriminate in favor of birthing and against abortion.
