They will not stop what’s happening. They only affect the law abiding. America has gun control. We have about 25,000 laws saying what we can or cannot do with our guns. How is one, two or ten more laws going to stop criminals? If they don't enforce what we already have, what is that really going to do?

The Federal Firearms Act of 1938 prohibits possession of firearms by persons convicted of a felony and those adjudicated as being mentally incompetent or presented a danger to themselves or others. New classes of prohibited persons were added by the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Brady Act of 1993, and the Lautenberg Amendment to the Omnibus Spending Bill of 1997.

Repeal the Gun-Free School Zone Act and repeal the Hughes Amendment to the Firearm Owners Protection Act.

Do like they do in Israel, harden the schools. Have better trained police officers that are actually competent. Uvalide shouldn't have happened. Bunch of cowardly assholes.

School sentries ARE peace officers employed by the local department, at least in my city. School security guards are not.

Police have more powers, but peace officers can still arrest and shoot back. It's not perfect but I'm happy your school cared enough about kids to have good security. It's the least we can do if we care as much about kids as we do money and politicians.

My son went to high school in Tennessee and they had a patrol car with a police officer parked out front of the school each day. That was back in 1997. Wonder if they still have police presence? I guess there was room in the budget for it.
Even an empty cop car parked out front of a scholl might deter a potential shooting. Just an idea 💡

Along with metal detectors at entrances and overall access control. And (running the risk of sounding liberal). No person of school age should be permitted to buy ammo or guns if they have an active prescription to Ritalin, Adderall or any narcotic drug.

The existing mental health components of federal 4473 forms pretty much bar anybody who has ever sought help for anything mental in their entire life. Brady checks are there to catch whatever gets past the first line of defense. Most new patient intake forms for mental health treatment demand to know if the prospective patient has guns or intends to get them so that they can notify state police of the patients voluntarily reaching out for help and either seize their guns or bar their access to new purchases.

Yes I do, and so does Tennessee. I realize you might not understand what a deterrent is, but basically the cowards who look for soft targets are counting on the delay built into the reactive system that is failing now, seeing a gun may deter an attack, or failing that the trash will get taken out sooner.

How can a human understand so little of human psychology? Did they not teach history when you were a kid? Encouraging violence just begets MORE violence- and at any rate, mass shooters don't look for "soft targets" they look for people who they're PISSED at. Whether that anger is justified is another question, and there's no shortage of innocents caught in the crossfire in any event, but there has yet to be even a single mass shooting in a nursing home or maternity ward. It's not about defenselessness, and providing MORE guns is going to lead to MORE shootings.
