Politicians - Do we focus on the wrong things when voting?

Politicians are usually expected to be squeaky clean with no skeletons in their closets, good on TV and appealing to voters, but in most cases they are cabbages who do a piss poor job running our Countries or states.

Should political selection be based more professional based eligibility, where people have proven track record in managing large budgets?

okay- I was never fan of Donald Trump. I did not hate him but I just thought he was just a conceited rich guy. I never watched the Apprentice. I voted for him because of his business experience. Hillery said that it is the government that creates wealth. I had never heard a more wrong headed attitude. Maybe she and Bill both got filthy rich peddling influence through their foundation but to be that out of touch with reality was just alarming. I voted for Trump because he described some large scale projects that he did. One was the rehab of the Javitz Center. He described the project in detail and the steps he took to get it done. I thought it was impressive and felt that we had a lot of problems in America and we needed a problem solver. I was not disappointed.

Maybe there arguments both ways, I loved trump as president I think he did an extremely good job but I think the time calls for a more disciplined president and younger Ron DeSantis. This is his moment and Trump knows he’s a threat hence why Trump as been attacking him.

that being said with the DNC trying to arrest and convict trump at any coast make me want to change my mind and support trump. He’s like an ex girlfriend I can’t get over even though I’m trying to find someone knew.

It should be a factor yes. But not the only one. Personally I am all for a sort of placement exam anyone running for political office needs to take. And have their scores made publicly available. With different categories like current events, world geography, scientific literacy, and any other pertinent topics. But yes, a person's economic comprehension, even personal credit score and how many times they have declared bankruptcy should all be taken into account.

Years ago a good politician was forced to resign over some nonsense over Cattle paperwork, it was stupid thing, he was super effective at his job. At that moment I worried we sacrificed a great politician who actually got stuff done and ended up with a bunch of scam artist types who look good on TV and poll well with certain age groups.

Ah yes, the good old days. When all the nation had to worry about what who did or didn't suck Clinton's dick and whether or not there really were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Rather than having to worry about whether or not a convicted felon can still run for office.

because if we do that we essentially make politics only available for upper class people
very few working class people will have that sort of track record
and there's so much more to do with running a country than just finances, ofc it all comes back down to finances but realistically the only person who needs to be qualified to manage finance is the finance minister or whoever's your equivalent

But we currently elect people based on their personality and not actual achievements, there is no independent review committee to tell us how productive a politician was during their term.

They work for Corporations now, almost all are fully backed by Corporations, so while we the people elected them, they serve the interests of the money men first.
