Why don’t we elect better politicians?

Because most of them aren't better people and are easily bribed or corrupted. Imagine that the political arena is a swimming pool next to a small flowering tree. The swimming pool is full of turds, the turds represent the bad politicians. The flowers on the small tree represent the good politicians. Once in a while the wind blows and the flowers fall into the pool on top of the turds. They stay on top of the turds, maybe the wind blows again and they are free from the mire again. If the wind doesn't blow, eventually the flowers get covered in shit and stuck to the turds, and turn into rotten shit themselves after a while because they have no other choice. That's politics.

We can only vote for people that are running. Most people who would be a good leader are running their own companies and getting rich. They do not want to bother with all the crap that politics comes with. President Trump is the exception to this. I think with him it is all ego.

Because our political system is so corrupt, any good politician is instantly smeared and ignored, and the ones that do over come this, have to deal with corrupt party elites who "fix" primaries to ensure they don't win. Sanders and the 2016 primaries is a prime example of party elites "fixing" things ensuring the better politician doesn't get the nomination.

You’re not wrong. Party politics torpedoed Bernie who had the most grassroots action from either side in years. So much so, they gave him committee power AFTER Biden won a year a later. That old man is where are energy is.

The other side has its energy in an orange conman who openly wants to be a dictator.
