In the past I would of said yes, but then a little while ago a guy rear-ended my SUV and it was totaled, insurance screwed me over... for a vehicle I had paid off and I had to go buy a used one due to high costs of use cars for 35k with 90k miles on it and less features, the one that was totaled had more features and lower mileage.
I would say no because if the officer wrecked it, either insurance would screw me over or the police would in only paying what they deem it is worth, while leaving me out hanging high and dry.
If I knew they would replace it with a equal or better vehicle, then sure I would let them have it.
Try cars with salvage titles, some of them have really simple stuff, like cars that have good engines and frames, but body damage that causes them to be totalled. Pullhammer, screws, bondo and paint. I got one for the scrap value of metal simply because the electronics were fried from being pulled into fresh water, I just slapped in junk yard parts and got it driving.
@razelove I'm not mechanical at all in anyway to fix anything. Do salvage titles tell you why they were salvaged though? Such as underwater during a hurricane?
Nope, just that the car was a total loss at some point, either as judged by an insurance company, junk yard, sold for scrap value, etc. Maybe you could infer it from carfax or something by running the vin and seeing a wreck that lines up with the title date. Though you'd need the title shown to you for that to happen, which typically only happens when you're buying. I only knew why they were scrapped because I bought them straight from the junk yard, body shop, or the auctions that had information. It's why second hand private sale of salvaged cars are so cheap. You typically don't know, could be a bent frame, could be from salted roads up north, or something simple. I did get an F-150 for 200 dollars one time that was a loss, it had rust on the frame and body from salt, transfer box was shot, catalytic converter lit the engine on fire, ugh, electronics were fried, great fun, I sold it for my first offer just to get rid of it lol
Shit yeah! The car I drive the most has no instrument cluster, no radio, a wire harness and modules from other vehicles. It cost a whopping 400 dollars after the "repairs". Hmm, well, like 1400 if I count the propane tank and stuff I added.
Insurance if it gets stolen is 8k, that's grand theft auto son.
you're required to, it's called commandeering. they have to compensate you for it afterwards, and any damage that might have been caused. and any evidence of crime they see that wasn't already in plain sight would be inadmissible
Depends. In Sweden I would not mind but id take down their ID. In USA I would go "Monsieur, ich spreche kein Englisch." and drive away before they can attempt to clarify because fuck them.
