What are you thoughts about office cats?

I have been making the case that my office (a large, secure, industrial, control room) needs a cat. My facility is crewed 24/7/365 no matter what. The cat would never long for company or care. The only complaint I could see would be regarding allergies, but we already run hepa filters 24/7. Your thoughts?

The only negative I can think of are there any keyboards and computer mice in the office?

Does it matter if Tabby does some typing? Does it matter if Tabby inverts your screen so bottom is at the top and the top is at the bottom. Hard to read letters which are upside down. My Tabby has done this several times and has also switched left to be right and right left. I don't understand why Micro Soft has facilitated cats in this way.

My Tabby has at varying times decided the mouse is his and bit me for touching it.

I think it is a great idea. It will be good for peoples happiness and productivity. Normally I am ironic but I'm not in this case. Good luck in the project.

The poor cat, I'm thinking of a cat living in a chemical plant for the shift workers, once that little bastard goes in, he's never coming out. You wouldn't even have to neuter or spay the cat, as it would only come in contact with humans after that moment unless both the power plant and turbines went down.
I mean, why not just bring it in and say it was a stray?

That would be awesome. Yes allergies could be an issue but many offices have cleaning crews which come in if not nightly then a least once a week. Of course the office could keep Claritin available lol 🤣.
One way to in courage then idea could be to offer to adopt a cat from a local shelter. or better yet foster one cat at a time. When the cat lands a permanent home foster a new cat in need. Maybe animal care can be written off on taxes as a charitable act?

I think that's a great idea! Growing up the veterinary clinic where I would take my cats had an office cat that was a regular fixture. I guess they could get away with it but even two of the nursing homes where I did nursing clinicals had a cat that lived there at the nursing home. I've heard they couldn't get a approval for more after those cats died. I guess allergies probably would be the biggest issue.

Its important to not introduce office animals in an office that only has day jobs. In your case it seems to work. On the other hand animals need places to retreat to if they want to. I think it can have a great impact on work.

Technically I do have an office cat but I only have a home office.

I've heard of office or library cats before. They can brighten people's spirits.

The only down side would be disclosing it to prospective employees who might be allergic.

I used to do business in a Police station that had a black and white office cat. His name was cruiser.

As long as there were some H. R. policies in place to make her a protected class. Yes, she is an animal, but she would also be an employee and deserves not to be cat-called or referred to as a pussy or all those other things guys do.

I have one, it's kinda awesome, especially when they pick your desk to sleep at (because I bring snacks lol)

I think they are a great idea. I worked for a company where the owner often brought their dog in. She would sleep under my desk which improved my day.

Outside of the allergies, you mentioned, it would be awesome! Except the office I work has 3 interconnected six story towers that are all open. We would never find the cat!

I like idea of cats and pets in office, except for the allergies people have and how cats can destroy a place fast. One good cat is plenty.

Damn right I will. The Japanese did a study that found office cats lower stress and increase productivity.

Indoor cats rarely need baths lol 🤣 and if the cat is fed a decent nutritious diet it would only need one feeding a day. And like @KrakenAttackin was quick to say hell ya to feeding or grooming the cat there would be bound to be others who would happily volunteer... The only issue would be a kitty litter... But there are automatic kitty litter boxes... But someone would need to volunteer or be paid to change it once a week.

@meetkitty123 Exactly. I have an automated feeder that dolls out a specified amount of food and an automatic cat box that sweeps everytime my cats uses it.
