I agree with it in principal but I also understand that the justice system is fallable and if someone who was executed and later found to be innocent, it can't be undone

It shouldn't be mandated but inmates should be allowed to chose between the death penalty or life in prison

No because murdering someone is never okay, no matter the reason.

Also, what if the person was wrongly convicted and is innocent? There’s no coming back from that or a chance for things to be corrected in a case like that.

It is expensive, it does not deter crime, it dehumanizes everyone involved in it, it is not applied consistently, life in prison is far worse, and it accomplishes nothing except to very temporarily satisfy those who demand vengance.
