Yes of course. Especially in cases involving children whether that’s rape, murder, etc. A lot of prisoners who go on death row live in prison for decades. Most of them never even make it to that point because they die of old age or someone kills them in prison. It’s not like once a sentenced is reached the prisoner is excited the following Monday. They’re in there for years. Living it up. I worked in the prison for 8 years. A lot of the dudes who are in there just come back month after month, sometimes every year. They don’t learn a damn thing from being in prison other than hooking up w other criminals to commit more crimes. Sure a handful have gotten out, gotten jobs, married w kids. But many of them shouldn’t even be alive today w the shit they do.

Maybe for the people who have committed lesser crimes like DUI or BnE, but for someone who murdered or raped a child. I don’t think you’d want to see a man walking the streets who raped or killed your child. I don’t think there’s no rehabilitating from that.

From someone who has been abused as a child which more then likely had a part to play in lots of harmful behaviors I resorted to in my youth. I would like to see people change. I’d like to see society change. And personally I believe most people can change and become great respectable people in society. I do not condone any sort of child abuse but I do believe there is a huge stigma in America about criminals that is effecting people from rehabilitation. I also believe that America has the resources to help criminals reform their lives. When someone is sentenced to prison they “loose their rights” if they’re rights are lost then why not just force them into rehabilitation programs?

I just believe as a society we could do so much more to prevent criminals from reoffending without trying to “scare them” with harsh punishments. Yes criminals need to be held accountable for their actions and multiple psychology studies have shown the best way is through rehabilitation.

No. For one thing it's not applied equally based on gender, race, wealth and other factors. Mistakes happen and they're irreversible in the case of the death penalty. Data shows that the death penalty isn't an effective deterrent when you compare rates of certain capital crimes in countries (or even neighboring states) with and without the death penalty. It's more expensive for the taxpayer than life in prison. Finally, life in prison without parole IS a death sentence--they will die in prison when God, Allah, Jehovah, Zeus or nothing at all (take your pick) decides its time.

The death penalty isn't about justice, but about vengeance and wrath. Those are base human compulsions and not virtues.

I lean towards it for extreme cases. People who argue that it tends to cost more than life imprisonment might be neglecting opportunity costs. Typically when the death penalty is available, those convicted and at risk of the death penalty tend to plea bargain much more from my understanding, potentially saving a lot of tax dollars for what could be a very drawn out case.

It is an effective way to stop criminals from committing more crimes. Should be far more common than it is and far faster in my opinion. Death is a fantastic deterrent to crime

Aside from you know all of human history. Crime was lower in societies that killed criminals swiftly. More "civilized" societies have higher crime and yet they continue to not enact the proper punishment. Have you bothered to read a history book? Or did they stop teaching history in schools

Just to give an example. During the 1700s death was the punishment for many crimes including murder. The homicide rate was roughly.37 per 100,000 and the current homicide rate is roughly 6.2 per 100,000 which is a nearly 1,700% increase. Soooo you were saying
