There's quite a bit more to that story than what most people are getting at, and a lot of it is laughably petty, and so laughably typical of the conservative establishment.

It's not inaccurate to point out that Tucker was singlehandedly carrying Fox News, and a large part of it was because he did challenge established narratives and humiliated even GOP bigwigs on his show multiple times, unlike the other hosts. Rupert Murdoch is a massive grifter: he owns ostensibly conservative media companies, but does so solely because it's profitable to maintain a de facto monopoly on half of a consumer base. He has a massive ego, is known to have bizarrely hostile reactions to hosts so much as mentioning God whether or air on in conversation, and got wildly jealous whenever his girlfriends compliment any of the hosts - and allegedly, Tucker is a consistent favorite. He also apparently wasn't shy about criticizing company leadership for their management, which to be fair, typically doesn't go over well in most companies. This possibility has since been corroborated by other former Fox hosts and employees, including Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly, and Steven Crowder. Apparently Lachlan Murdoch, Rupert's heir, is also a real piece of work and may be actively trying to destroy Fox and/or sell it off.

It will probably be remembered as the single most astronomically stupid business decision ever made by a news network, even if just going by the numbers. Who torpedoes the guy responsible for about 50% of your viewership (and a majority of the middle-age target demographic that Fox sorely struggles with) in an era where he can easily just start his own independent show online, or join The Blaze or Daily Wire with a fraction of viewers following him and still get a better deal for himself with more autonomy (which he's one of very few in the business who could make that claim)? This is also right on the heels of a lawsuit settlement that was supposed to minimize the potential damage to the company, but Tucker's departure hit them so hard it would've been better to fight and lose the lawsuit, in terms of company value. However, I don't doubt that no loss will ever surpass sating Rupert's ego, and in his ripe age, he probably doesn't care anyway.

Tucker Carlson was fired for 4 reasons:

1. He was insubordinate and insulted his superiors - the people who paid him.

2. He was a liability with his lies. He just helped cost Fox 787 million dollars which they settled in their Dominion Voting Systems defamation case for 1.6 billion dollars which they would have lost. There's still the 2.1 billion dollar defamation case from Smartmatic to be decided.

3. He created a hostile work environment which is why he and Fox are being sued by an ex-Fox employee.

4. Despite his ratings, he alienated advertisers especially Blue Chip advertisers.

5. And, perhaps worst of all, he was being insubordinate in a different way. He acted as if he was immune from rules and punishment from Fox executives and ownership.

In short, he was a lying, self-righteous asshole who cost Fox and would have cost Fox a shitload of money. He is replaceable and Fox knows this and needed to set an example.

He is the only person fired from CNN, MSNBC, and Fox. That ought to tell you something.

Tucker was reading from a script they wrote for him, his views were that of the corporate intrest of the fox news owners. Likely fox news had a few reasons to shut his show down probably due to a combination of political pressure, pressure from advertisers, Carlson's lack of journalistic integrity and its probably cheaper to get rid of him and bring in a new Tucker Carlson 2.0 at less money.

Tucker Carlson may actually have wanted to leave figuring he could make more money from setting up his own YouTube channel or go to a rival network.

Tucker Carlson was the last safe harbor for cable television. His host fox news lost $787.5 million in the defamation lawsuit. The single easiest lawsuit to win for a news corporation to exist if the news was true. Steven crowder turn his nose at a $50 million dollar deal with daily wire recently.
