Why is New York and California so expensive?

Why are they so expensive when I could move to Florida enjoy better weather, beaches, and still have a strong economy, and international community, while paying less for rent?

Simple -- supply and demand. Yes, you could move to Florida, or South Texas. How are rents in Miami or the Tampa area?

In Miami about 2-3k a month, New York and San Francisco are two to three times that price.

$2k+/month is rather expensive. That's similar to Seattle. If by New York you mean NYC, it varies by neighborhood.

You don't see people sleeping on the sidewalk in Alabama or Mississippi. You don't see people crapping in the street in Florida or South Carolina. there are many different ways to measure poverty. California has the nations largest budget deficit. That does not sound like prosperity to me.

@slatyb We make our own life expectancies. America as a whole is experiencing a drop in life expectancy. It is mostly due to drug ODs and suicides. Most occur in liberal states. Not a coincidence. Liberals are the most unhappy people in the world. Show me a liberal and I will show you somebody on anti depressants.
