Probably, they have high chance of failure on average, but the ones that succeed can be very profitable. You would be a lot safer and more secure investing in a Laundry Mat.

Most chefs I've ever met are fickle people, once they do well and are in the limelight they tend to jump ship and go out other their own, which makes owning a restaurant a rocky investment.

You have to be opinionated to run a business because if you do not know what you are doing, your employees will lie to you and take advantage of you. Real estate is easier to manage cause you don’t have to compete in skills to attain and maintain your position. I know a very nice guy who bought a restaurant and his employees demanded a raise as soon as the management changed caused they realized the guy did not know what he was doing and depended on them for information.

There are much better, safer investments if you already have money. Restaurants have a high rate of failure. Investments should be diversified and as liquid as possible, which a restaurant is not.

Depends on the venue of the restaurant and what kind of restaurant it is. If it has a high chance of being in-demand, sure. I'd take a risk on some kind of business if I won the lottery.

Yes, I think 90% of the restaurants that open will fail in the first year. Buy lottery tickets instead.
