Gun control advocates think emotionally, not logically. All they do is react to the news and internalize the opinions they are manipulated to believe.

If an unarmed person gets raped, robbed or murdered, they don't think about self defense. They are terrified of guns. It's a phobia.

If the aggressor was armed with a gun, they blame the gun. And if an attacker gets shot, they mourn over his life and blame the defender for having a gun. It's completely illogical.

The beliefs of the northeastern elites who, after the Civil War, became the American elites, were always animated by religious fervor. First Puritanism, then universalism, then transcendentalism, then liberal protestantism, then secular progressivism, and finally the intersectional (“woke”) progressivism we have today. Having left religion behind, this latest political orthodoxy that is basically a heretical form of Calvinism without God becomes a substitute for religion. Given that being anti-gun has long been leftist political orthodoxy, and now leftist political orthodoxy is held with the fervor that used to be reserved for religious belief, being anti-gun is no longer a position to be scrutinized in logical terms but is part of a profession of faith and a sign of being a good person. And why not? After all, our elites and all important institutions expect people to sincerely believe that women can have penises and men can have babies. You would be surprised how many corporate executives come to genuinely believe what they initially only uttered to keep the big asset management funds that mandate ESG happy. When a person lies, it creates cognitive dissonance, for which genuine conversion offers a cure. And the small army of millennial college educated women and soy boys who form the backbone of the non-ruling elite? Almost all true believers of the new faith! Of course, as with any religion, there will be the occasional person going through the motions for the sake of respectability and social mobility.

There's something wrong in a society where an old lady has to be armed to be tooth to feel herself safe. That's the first thing that needs addressing. But of course that won't be done because it actively requires people to take responsibility for the society that they live in, and actually make changes. And you know, to actually think, critically. And that's definitely too hard for most people.

The argument relating to gun control is complex.
We should have freedom from the government, and people should be able to defend themselves.
On the other hand, ubiquity of guns in my mind increases the likelihood of me getting shot. Like people are fucking stupid, and they snap. I've had death threats from some moron in the past by virtue of being in a work group chat with his girlfriend. The idea that this 'fruitloop' could have had access to firearms is scary. My trust generally of people and institutions is low.

I can see both sides.

But the idea that my 70 old mother should be walking around carrying a firearm in the suburbs, is fucking a special level of retardation. Or is the idea that I would like to get to the root of an issue of build a better society means that I love 'Moslems'. As is the idea of generalising 500 odd million 'Europeans'. I mean that bullshit is indefensible, in spite of where your views lay.

My views certainly aren't PC, despite being a European.

Most people are stupid, and they do snap sometimes, and a person who is willing to murder you is willing to get a gun illegally, so it should be legal to get a gun, so sane people can defend themselves.

An eldery person being held at gunpoint is no less terrifying than an elderly person carrying a gun.

You aren't allowed to have your safe space, the world is and always will be filled with danger, all you can do is defend yourself as best you can.

And yes the world is always full of danger. And yes, shit happens, and whereever you lay on the firearm spectrum, you can get caught up in something and get fucked up. But I can say with quite a degree of confidence, that where I live is by some degrees sounds much safer and a much nicer place than where you guys live. I don't go to bed shitting myself every night. People who have moved here from the US have spoken about a general level of paranoia and fear that infests the American psyche. I would be curious to know if there is any truth to that.

But in any case, this is a fruitless and pointless argument. To each their own and whatever.

As much as I'm against exuberant gun control, this is kinda a silly example. Whether it's an old lady or a young man, I don't feel like it changes anything much if were trying to reasonably take everything into account.

The violence in the US is more organically rooted within the culture. In both cases diversity is correlated to some degree or other.
