Why are conservatives claiming to fund Daniel Penny because New York is soft on crime?

If Daniel Penny committed a crime by choking someone to death, how are they being soft on crime if he's being prosecuted for it? Has the Republican party gone insane or are they just racist idiots?

The dude is def going to prison. It doesn’t matter how good his lawyers are. But it’s crazy how right wing people claim democrats are soft on crime, while funding someone’s defense who just committed a crime.

Not only was it a crime but manslaughter. Which is a violent crime.

The issue is that Jordan Neely should not have been on that train. He had committed several previous crimes some of them violent. He had left a treatment center long before his agreed time ended.

Mentally unstable people are difficult to deal with - they are unpredictable and sometimes dangerous. Daniel Penny was in a situation many New Yorkers (and other city dwelers) frequently find themselves in - trapped with an unstable and possibly dangerous person.

Jordan Neely was dangerous - in 2021 he assaulted a 67 year old woman (pleaded guilty). He should not have been there.

Daniel Penny may have misinterpreted the risk Jordan Neely represented at that time - but it can be very difficult to judge when someone like that is actually dangerous. That situation should never have occurred if Neely had already been in custody

As far as I know, Neely did not attack anyone on the train and I'm not saying Penny was correct - only that it was a difficult and frightening situation. I remember being on a subway car with an apparently unstable person openly carrying a long knife. He wasn't threatening anyone, just muttering to himself. But being unstable he was unpredictable.

No, it doesn't mean he should have been killed, but that wasn't the question above. The question had to do with soft policing, and I'm saying that if the police were doing their jobs, he would have been in prison on a secure mental facility.

It appears Penny was not applying deadly force. It was a restraint intended to cause the perp to pass out, not choke to death. He may have done it wrong or the perp may have fad contributing factors such as drug abuse. Or both. He is likely to plea bargain to involuntary manslaughter.

It all comes from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and some of his soft policies on crime. From 2021 to 2022, Manhattan's seven major felony offenses (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny auto) rose by 26 percent to the highest since 2006 yet he plans to eliminate prison sentences for lesser crimes and downgrade felony charges. I don't see what race has to do with it, being non-white doesn't automatically make you a criminals.

I'm afraid not paco. New York is soft on crime, new york charging a guy with manslaughter for choking a guy to death does not disprove that.
For instance Rodney Johnson, 53, was give a slap-on-the-wrist punishment just last week after Bragg's office knocked down his felony robbery charges to a misdemeanor. The DA's Office cut him loose on a $1 bail, despite breaking the law for the past 35 years.

We’re not talking about any other case than this one right here and the crowd funding that Daniel is receiving. Crowd funding for someone who killed another person, which is a crime.

Often new York's subway system is completely lawless. Criminals know they can basically do whatever they want because if someone dares to stop them they can sue and the criminal justice system is a joke
