Why is it harder for American progressives to talk about public safety than it is for conservatives? You can disagree with me but look at how some public servants talk about the police and crime in San Francisco and New York City the two most liberal American cities. Police officers aren’t more racist than a typical dentist is.
Soft on crime? Not really. Rather, we want impartial application of the law. If rich people can steal a million dollars and get no jail time then poor people should be able to steal 20 dollars and get no jail time. We're happy to lock them both up but the right doesn't want white collar criminals to face consequences unless it's a democrat. And when a democrat does get caught, they are usually ostracized from the party and become republicans (i. e. Blagojevich).
That's one side of things. The other is the faith in humanity that pretty much all people will engage in legal means to survive as long as such means are availible. You can't really fault someone for stealing to feed their family when there are no other options. And our system of capitalism requires poor and desperate people in order to sustain billionaires. Progressives simply think if the job creators want to retain that title then they should prioritize that instead of prioritizing more money.
Consistency is the key, I suppose. Progressives want people to mean what they say and be held accountable for promises made in bad faith. In that way, progressivism is ultimately just the enemy of scammers. It is sad that the right has become so enamored with scammers, but I guess there's nothing progressives can do about what goes on in the alt right bubble.
We want to solve the root problem of material conditions meaning getting people out of poverty. What harsher punishment does is create people who cannot get a job let alone poverty. Ot creates a self eating loop.
We live in a risk vs reward economic system. Increasing risk only increases reward for demands. If we were to create a world where basic needs are met the moderate illegal risk isn't desirable letalone viable. With how things are now people only got one shot. It even has that hustle grind set wannabe millionaires have for making money.

I'd say it's because conservatives think too simplistically about societal issues, because they're uneducated compared to progressives.
Progressive folks typically recognize there are many intersecting factors that make these challenges, well, a challenge. They're also less likely to do things like genuinely suggest genocide or fascism, which is the end state for conservatism.

From what I understand they lack trust in the institute that police them so assume most criminals are unjustly charged and for the comment of police to dentists I wouldn't know if the statement is true or not but even it'll it was a police has much higher authority then a dentist so it wouldn't really matter at that point
It's part of the deranged woke ideology that says that it's society's fault that these criminals commit crimes so they shouldn't be punished for it. I really hope a Republican president invokes the insurrection act and sends in the troops to restore order and remove the woketards who have turned these cities into third-world hellscapes.
Libersl politicians enact policies like defunding the police, no cash bail, let in all illegal aliens, and not prosecute many crimes. This is to pander for votes from minority communities.
but look at how crime RATE is higher where the d. a. is considered soft or doesn't prosecute.
