Whats wrong with being liberal?

Nothing.

It's when people claim use of a word or label to describe that which does not apply to the situation at hand that the problem arises.

In my opinion, most, but not all, of those who claim to be representative of the label, liberal, couldn't be farther from the mark. "Most" being the key word in my evaluation of the subject.

It takes just a small bit of research to see that political labels have been so far twisted over time that they bear very little resemblance to the meanings of the original words.

Look up liberalism. You'll find it to broken into further divides of types of liberalism. I'm not knowledgeable enough to hold forth on the subject in great detail, but my takeaway from my research is as follows:

1) Classical liberalism is based on noble ideals.

2) Neoliberalism is a selfish bastardization of those ideals.

Liberalism can be noble. Liberalism can also be the farthest possible thing from being noble. Choose your definition.

The world is a complicated place.

No matter where you yourself may fall on the political spectrum, kudos to you for your inquisitiveness.

Nothing wrong with being actually liberal, the problem is that most people that call themselves liberal have no idea what being liberal is and instead advocate for authoritarian stuff like mandates.

Being Liberal is not the same as voting democrat, being liberal is about valuing individual liberty over adhering to a collective. So if people are collectivist / communist and they think individuals should submit for the sake of the collective they are not liberals.

Nothing is wrong with being liberal as long as you keep an open mind that conservatives in other parts of the country have some legitimate complaints and reasons for the positions that they hold.
