Does all of the divisiveness in recent years just get us, as individuals, nothing more than a sense of "I one-upped them" until the opponent comes back with around round of divisiveness that one-ups me?
To what end?
I say that divisiveness is ridiculous.
Let's just stop it, huh?

Yougethumancontact. I like making friends with whom I first had disagreementsandsometimes still do, because I know what they say will be said in good faith.
I contend that divisiveness and disagreements are very different things. Divisiveness is nasty and hostile. Disagreements come about from manifold sources, but there is no hostility involved.
I see the point that you make very clearly, and in fact, I just made a new friend here on G@G in the last week because of an initial disagreement, which could have blown up into a fight.
I instead chose to just laugh off the entire situation and let this person know, that in the end, it just doesn't matter.
We messaged back and a forth a couple of times, poured our hearts out, as it were, and now we're friends, so yeah. Cool.
Thanks for your input. 😊👍

Nice!!
Identity.
We’ve been led to believe our ideology, religion, etc is our identity, thus everyone not with us is against us. More intelligent populace would help.
