Perhaps the object is to be 'more equal' than those who have a smaller share of equality?

I believe the problem lies in how equality is defined.


I believe that equality is giving every human and equal amount of respect/courtesy, no matter their race, gender, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation.


That is fully attainable. It’s a matter of choice.


Now, when it comes to equality of wealth and success, that’s when it goes into numbers and economics. It’s beyond choice there. It’s hard math and statistics.


By definition, not everybody can be the top 1%. There will always be a top 1%.


Not everybody can feel entitled to be paid the same either. The person working 80-100 hours a week for 10 years is going to often be paid more than someone working 40 hours a week for 3 years.


Pay and earnings are naturally more meritocratic, and when it’s not meritocratic, then it should be made to be. In other words, performance-based. Because that’s the only way we can ensure equal OPPORTUNITY for everyone.


So, depending on how equality is defined, it can be possible or impossible.


What IS possible is STRIVING towards equal respect/courtesy and equal opportunity for all people.

It seems like the marxist factions of society are acting as if there is a finite supply of equality to go around, and the oppressors are keeping it all for themselves. That's ridiculous, so I asked the question to see if anyone else had noticed this as a cultural trend towards a marxist dialectic now that the American left cares about equality all of a sudden.

Yeah, I’ve definitely noticed that.

A shift towards Marxist ideology among the left when it comes to socioeconomic inequality.

It’s like they are moving towards socialism.

I suppose it has something to do with entitlement and a desire for government aid and reform, wanting the economy to adapt to them instead of learning to adapt to the economy—wanting to change the game rather than learn how to play by the rules of capitalism.

If they want equality, then meritocracy is the way to go. Equal opportunity. That’s true equality.

Not working less, yet being paid the same. That’s just entitlement. But a socialist government can give them that. Perhaps they want to have their cake and eat it too and they think socialism is the answer.
