In a book, the detective had a gun but held it in his holster. Other guy didn't have gun. But detective said in the story of the lines of "my father said if we wish to kill, we are to remove our weapon and don't miss. Fire away." Soo makes me think... is that a thing y'all do or just... blow them away. I'm curious as i'm going to be a level 3 security guard aand... makes me think.
My father was a cop for 33 years. So he was old school. He said that cops were trained back then that you never pull your gun unless you intend to use it. I can't speak to the way cops are trained now. I know in his 33 year history my father fortunately was only involved in 1 shootout. But he had to get physical may times. And as a cop you have to consider EVERYONE a threat regardless of gender or stature. My father didn't do that once to this 4'11" woman and she stabbed him in the neck with a screwdriver when he wasn't looking.

I'll add to that, in addition to the training that you should be receiving to allow you to carry a gun, I'd pursue further situational training to prepare you for those immediate "what do I do " moments.
It's not a small thing to take a life.
Good on you for bringing up the subject. That means you're already thinking about it, which helps you to prepare.

Depends. Life moves fast. Sometimes stuff pops off real quick and you are applying pressure to the trigger at the high ready, sometimes it is a slower pace while you see whats what.
In real life there isn't always time for a warning, nor would you always want to give one.

If you have to pull it, be prepared to use it. You should avoid those circumstances
