I choose to live free.
Which do you value more, personal freedom, or safety?
I choose to live free.
Everyone has a freedom/safety line in their lives, and every person's is different in different ways.
Even the most self-professed "free" persons have freedom/safety lines in their lives.
What may be freedom to some, may be viewed as otherwise by others of different viewpoints.
Safety provides much convenience but does come at a cost of some "freedoms", but not FREEDOM itself.
A lot of people have to agree on where those lines lay, especially when beyond the borders of a person's own property.
So, here we have "society".
I'm fine with quite a bit of it, although I'd really like to see public nudity become a normal freedom.
I'm good with most institutions, but can argue against some, too.
Let me paint a picture for you. When I say sacrifice freedom for safety.. That would mean n throwing the constitution and bill of rights in the trash, no more freedom of religion, speech, expression, press, no more gun ownership, no more right to due process.. Guilty until proven innocent. As in would you sacrifice all of your rights and freedoms to be safe?
Agreed
It depends in what context but i do not like the way health safety laws are damaging our right to enjoy ourselves, it seems things get banned or restricted by too much health safety. If you are talking about guns they should be banned. Who needs to carry a gun. Then think about the covid lockdown, the vast majority of people backed that to keep people safe but it took away their freedoms.
People with infectious diseases can be placed in quarantine. Freedom doesn't really grant you safety.

I certainly would not do that. I don't that would make you more safe either.
Exactly. That's what I mean by sacrifice freedom to get safety. It's not surprising those that voted no didn't comment
Rather the second one lol
Personal freedom.

In general I value freedom more than safety - but there is always a tradeoff. I'll do some dangerous things if they mean a lot to me, but I have no objection to taking precautions when the cost is small.
I always wear seatbelts because its a lot of gain in safety for a little loss of freedom. But I also fly airplanes because its a lot of gain in fun despite the significant risk

Of course not - that is trading all freedom for a tiny bit of safety. No a choice any sensible person would make. Similarly, no sensible person would suggest eliminating speed limits near schools because its obvious the decrease in safety doesn't make op for the increase in "freedom".
In the real world, the questions are more complex, with difficult trade-offs. For example would you prevent individuals from owning heavy military weapons - the way someone could own a private warship when the founding fathers were around. Can Elon Musk buy an armed ballistic missile sub - he could afford one. If not, what about an armed F35.
Or can I post detailed nuclear bomb construction designs on the web? Or how to make an effective terrorist weapon using uncontrolled parts?
Both
