Why do people not support criminals to be executed?

I thought everything was an eye for eye. I saw this question earlier I wonder the same thing. But if someone killed your kid and raped them wouldn't you want them executed right away.

What if you jailed someone for 15 years and then goes free and kills another person like it happens several times per year?

No, people will be afraid to KILL, so less roberies and disputes will end in innocent lives lost.

No, you're saving future innocent lives from someone who has a low chance of changing.

Knowing that, is it okay to kill someone who might be innocent?

And this following question is not rhetorical, I politely ask you to answer. If you killed someone and later found out they were innocent, how would you try to right that wrong? You can't say "my bad" and bring them back to life. You can't make a dead person feel better by providing them with compensation. No amount of money will make their friends and family content with you killing them.

And lastly, keep in mind that interracial marriage, alcohol, homosexuality, have all been criminal activities at one point, some of which punishable by death.

So unless you can tell me "all laws we have now, and will ever have, are perfect and can't be wrong, and our means of determining the truth is flawless" then killing people for alleged crimes is wrong.

Plus, just because you can commit a mistake you won't convict a criminal?

How many times it happened that they put a murderer behind bars for a few years, then he goes free, and then goes and kills again? Aren't those mistakes that cost innocent lives as well?

At least killing a murderer not only gets rid of someone who could kill again, but it sets an example of no impunity to others. So your not only preventing a murder by that person, but by others.

And even if she did, my response still applies. People have been wrongfully convicted of rape in the past, as well as murder. I don't feel compelled to repeat myself, as it seems unnecessary, but you're welcome to read why I view killing people for crimes they may or may not have committed as wrong.

And why are you asking me "just because you can commit a mistake, you won't convict a criminal?" I didn't suggest we shouldn't convict people. I said we shouldn't kill them. If you kill then and you're wrong, there's nothing you can do to right that wrong. If you only imprison them, you did them wrong, but you can at least provide some form of compensation and an innocent person is now free again.

And the rest of your response regards Prison time, not whether killing a prisoner is just. And if your reasoning of mentioning it would be "well the other option to killing them is letting them go after a period of time" to which my response would be "then change sentence durations," not "then kill them."

And if you're really gun-ho about killing people who could be innocent, if you were in that situation, or if your mother or father was, and you knew they were innocent, would you think "well, it's okay the I/they die, because it's okay to sacrifice some good people to ensure bad people are killed. I'll gladly die/I'll gladly watch my parent die, knowing I'm doing the rest of the world good."

Execution is no longer done in private nor is it conducted correctly and swiftly. Death row inmates have been known to stay on the row for YEARS due to lengthy appeals.

Evening the time of public executions there has been no statical change in criminal activity not even during the time of Madame Guillotine or hung, drawn and quartered.

The only time anything has changed is when rapists, thieves and pedophiles met the end of a citizen carrying a firearm or a Bible.

True reform of the criminal mind occurs ether at the alter here on Earth or in the grave. The first and last of these criminal types being the exception of the aforementioned principle due to mental health.

I am with you 100% on this issue. I watched a video, about the Boston Marathon Bombing that killed and mutilated many, many people and the video was about one young man and his struggle... Were it in my power to do it, I would have captured those two assholes that did that, (I think they were both killed during capture) I would have had both legs of both of them amputated at the knees and set them free to live like the men and women they mutilated.

They should not have been executed... just MUTILATED like the people they mutilated...

An eye for an eye will make the world blind, and all that.

But I agree, in the scenario you described I probably would not care about laws and what is the better policy for humanity as a whole.

I reckon most people against it are against it because people are, not often but at times, judged wrongly.

depends which crime if they did not kill then not justice to kill them like not "die for an eye." about murder the opposition said "try to rehabilitate" which is a nice theory but in real world we see repeat offenders. also risk punish wrong guy, if prison can free but if death too late. but i rely on the jury and lawyers and support death penalty for murder even not two murders in same "event".

Executions are expensive, do not prevent crime, cannot be reversed if a mistake is made and an innocent person is executed, and damaging to people who have to view and participate in them.

Honestly I could but I'm also married to a marine. So I have no sympathy for criminals. I would be willing to think of it as thinking of the lost victims.
