We don't do it to show killing is wrong. We do it for two main reasons.
1) As a fear tactic to defer people from committing murder as they know the potential consequences are their own death. People have a fairly strong inclination to self-preservation, and this is usually enough to deter the overwhelming majority from committing murder.
2) To remove people who are otherwise reasonably incapable of reform from re-entering society and committing murder again. There are simply some people who cannot change, and would put too much strain on the prison system (in MULTIPLE ways) that it's in the best interest for society to remove them from it.

The idea is that when you kill someone you forfeit your own life
Lot cases it's bc people don't want to pay tax for those people in prison and wait for them to get out and threat the society.
Also the ancient saying ' an eye for an eye '.
So that they stop unjustifiably killing people.

I don't believe that the death penalty achieves much of anything. We already know that it costs, on average, more to execute someone than it does to keep them in prison for life and that is because of the endless appeals that are inevitably launched before the final sentence is carried out. Executions quite often happen when the offender is already well into old age, meaning that you deprive them of little. That is before you consider that they often had no kind of life anyway. Murdering was the only thing they ever enjoyed in their miserable lives, so you're doing them a favour.
This is before we even get to miscarriages of justice and the pitfalls of executing people when you can't entirely rely on your justice system.
Still, it is what it is. You could argue that execution is more humane then lifelong incarceration. Perhaps we should introduce an elective death penalty. I know that many would be against giving serious offenders what they want but we have an overloaded prison system and the ultimate objective is to keep society safe. So if more prisoners were willing to check out then it would be good all round. Society is spared their activities, a space opens up in the prison system and the costs of housing them or facilitating their court appeals is removed. It satisfies our desire for revenge, which some people think is more important than not killing. It's sort of a biblical desire to be vengeful. If you read most religious texts, they are filled with vengeance. "Thou shalt not kill" has an asterisk hidden near it. So much vengeance, despite Jesus saying that you must forgive all.
We don't. We kill murderers because they have taken a loved one, and often tortured them, from their family, depriving children of their mother and depriving wives of their husbands. We execute these murderers to show justice, not to show that killing is wrong. We do it so that people don't have to walk around every day knowing that the man who killed their mother is sitting in a comfortable, air-conditioned room watching TV.
It is a grey area for me, people say an eye for an eye, a life for a life, but a life renewed makes more sense than a life lost to me. Son of Sam is a Christian now and that's because he was given a second chance
I don’t know but I don’t understand the meme, what’s wrong with Jeff Dunham? 😡
I just made a comment about this on fb. A shock video of a guy getting murdered for a crime he committed. People were against what I said but I said two don't make it right.
Do we though? Seems like recently plenty of mass murderers go to prison where they get 3 hots and a cot.
The point isn't to show them killing is wrong, it's to deliver justice. They just took a life, Justice can be done only if the punishment is equal to the crime.
I can't think of anything better than death, the guy who died could've done so much so why let the killer live in a jail? This world in Which we Live in is so crazy and Upside down, I will be Glad when God returns and Cleans House very soon. xx
One reason is to prevent that person from killling others; another reason is to make the punishment so severe that it deters people from killing in general.
no idea how u got to level 6 before me with these kind of questions
Because there are some people who are so evil that they just don't deserve to live.
We already have to many people. We don't need them.
It as one of my favorite authors used to say
"As long as we have war, police, prisons, crime, We are not civilized yet"We don't. We kill them to get rid of them, and not have to pay to feed a pile of trash for a lifetime.
I don't want my taxes being wasted in giving food to a child murderer. But we execute them when they kill multiple times
Or they have to face jail for certain amount of time base on country with certain degree of punishment or torturingIt's not for that. It's mostly to take out the threat.
Revenge disguised as justice. It gives the illusion of closure and keeps all the rednecks happy. It's the American way.
To discourage people to kill people, it's common sense psh, lol
Some people are criminally insane and should be put to death
