no, "N..." is an identity and culture and a word used to hold someone down. She's not in it.

My rule would be if you are in it, then it's a way of communicating to people that think like you, since it's how you were raised to think, so that you can stay in your pit of despair, wear cloths that drag down to your knees and such. Basically... mind control within the culture to continue the oppression within. I wouldn't use it, frankly, it should be considered bullying, but it's their culture. It's a subtle cut down.

Outside of the culture, it's a put down to hold someone lower and should not be used in favor of pulling them out of their personal oppression.

I have no idea. I have heard from people who are mixed saying they are still 100% black even if they're half-white, for example. Blackness is a way of life or something like that.

The n-word is just super confusing to me as Japanese. I hear it music so often that is popular here in Japan and it wasn't until I went to US that I realized it can be so offensive that I am not even supposed to sing along in Karaoke and kind of bleep myself.

For me, it is very confusing when people say only certain people can say certain words; maybe more so because I am a drunkard and I love Karaoke. It doesn't sit well with my brain if I can't sing DMX without paying attention to how I am not black and so I should carefully skip over the N-words in the lyrics even when I am drunk, especially since I don't even memorize the songs I choose I choose in advance.

We don't have words I think that are so offensive to us here in Japan. Even words like Jap or chink or whatnot aren't so offensive to us, but admittedly we don't have history of slavery that black people have and maybe I am not sensitive enough to it. But it is so confusing to me to have to constantly be careful not to even sing along to a song.

Also there have been incidents in Japan where Japanese interacted with foreigners and got into violent trouble, like Japanese guy who said, "What's up my nigga?" to black group in Roppongi and I don't think he meant anything racist by it. He was just being stupid naive Japanese into hip-hop and thinking that is a nice way to greet someone, but he got killed for it.

My Japanese ex knew not to say the N word around me and he asked that i never ever call him the first 3 letters of “Japanese”. It may not offend you but it may offend someone else. I took his words to heart and have never referred to him or anyone else of Japanese origin as such. And i personally dont find it hard to skip over the N word in songs. I grew up listening to the radio so we often got the radio edits where the DJ skipped over the N word and curse words. I love karaoke and i continue to skip over the curse words as if i’m singing the radio edit

@DizzyDesii I can try to skip it and usually succeed. But beyond my personal tendencies I worry about all the rest of Japanese whose sole experience might just be listening to hip-hop and never setting foot in the US as I did. The problem I find with such an aggressive culture so eager to outcast people is that it's not offering much room to let them learn, and with the excesses I find in a lot of social media in the US, even further condemnation if someone apologizes for their mistakes.

@DizzyDesii I'm even halfway persuaded now that apologizing, no matter how sincerely and heartfelt, to a hyper-sensitive American is a huge mistake that could ruin a career. Apologizing even seems like a bad PR move to me.

@DizzyDesii I think I do that already on a cultural standpoint but I genuinely think in the West that there's a hyper-inflated sense that the listener's feelings are more important than the speaker's intentions. I'm interested in correcting both but I want to prioritize the listener because say a comedian makes a joke in front of 10,000 people. What are the odds that at least one person will take the joke the wrong way?

I just want to live my life peacefully without ever wanting to hurt anybody but I want to be able to make some jokes, even bad jokes, and maybe even most of my jokes are bad jokes since I'm far from a professional comedian. And if I make a bad joke, I think anyone who asks me about my intentions will find that I never intended to hurt anybody; I was just extremely stupid at worst and I will be first to admit that I'm a very stupid guy lacking sensitivity and knowledge about a lot of issues. It was never my intent to hurt anybody, but I don't see how even professional comedians can attempt some jokes if any joke that risks hurting a single person is off-limits.

I personally find a lot funny. I just rather leave the racial stereotypes out of what i find funny. Idc what race the person is. I just walk out on those types. And this is something i’ve felt since childhood. Had nothing to do with the way things have changed over the last few years. Some things truly can go too far

@DizzyDesii I sometimes think that is a generalized way between men and women about how to solve things. For example, I think most of us guys when we find a bully victim want to teach him/her to stand up for themselves, fight back if necessary, things of this sort. And lots of women want to go on anti-bulllying campaigns.

I find merit to both ways but my rationale for man's way which places bulk of responsibility on individuals and not society is that we can't solve the problem of bullies. So I want to adapt the bully victim to being more resilient and able to protect himself/herself from them, because I will die even if that's a child of mine and I'm the parent. I can't protect them forever, and they will find bullies all over the place if they can't defend themselves; not just in school but in their work, among their so-called friends, possibly even lovers.

If 25%, I’m assuming one of her parents is half black. So it is what it is. If she means somewhere deep in her ancestry but both parents dont look an ounce of black then thats not going to fly. She can say whatever she wants but if she gets smacked upside the head, she brought it on herself. There are so many other words she could’ve chosen for her vocabulary like “dude”, “bro”, “sis”, “man”, “guys” etc
