We learned about this man Emory Andrew Tate Jr. who was an American chess International Master, described by grandmaster Maurice Ashley as "a trailblazer for African-American chess.

Black Americans, what was it like for you in history class?

On October 17, 2015, Tate died after suffering a heart attack during a tournament in Milpitas, California. After his death, a number of grandmasters and international masters wrote tributes to him. In 2016, the Alabama Senate passed a resolution "celebrating his life and legacy"

His life can be looked up on wikipedia

Hope this is sarcasm, I don't know what you expect to hear lol. We are just regular people. race isn't as important as some people pretend it is or want it to be, we aren't different based on race. History class was just history class, Just like it was for everyone else there's no grand story we have to tell about our pain learningabout history, if you want to hear somethinglike that ask some blm activist or something, im sure they'll have an over blown bizarre story about their feelingson history class. Outside of that its just a regular class to regular people, blacks are regular people. Next let's ask Asian people what it's like for them in math class, or karate class. These are important things to ask people, make total sense to ask people these things and aren't racist in the slightest.

I’m not being sarcastic. I was wondering if the experience of learning about black history and slavery affects black students differently. I’ve seen memes and stories relating to this, so I was curious. I’m white and will never be able to view this history from the perspective of an individual whose ancestors may have been treated so inhumanely.

How would it affect us differently? Our race doesn't make us experience history class any differently its just a class, and Memes are just memes its satire. Regarding the way my ancestors were treated, its not like i know them, and i mean slavery isn't the only bad thing to happen on earth, litteraly everyones ancestors experience countless atrocities including your ancestors, so why focus on US slavery? I just don't like the focus everyone wants to place on skin color these days, its legit just a history class we had the same experience lol. There's no special view on slavery that all black people have. It's not as impactful as you think it is, its just history in a book like every other thing in history. It's just kinda a racist question in my opinion. This kind of thinking just drives wedges between us, that don't need to be there. white or black were all just people. History was bad for everyone at some time or another. Let's not be devicive

I know you dont have malicious intent, but the way of thinking is messed up still. I'm not offended tho, I understand why you thought this was a good question to ask people. Im More like, annoyed or frustrated, bc A LOT of people do this kinda stuff thinking their being nice to black people or something without realizing what they're actually being. It grows irritating. Bringing up our race all the time isn't not racist just your because your trying to pander. Best thing to do for everyone is just not see color, (for the most part). That's my opinion at least. The world would be much better that way.

Uh... like every other class. I had a problem with how some chapters were super short and others were very long. But was a general issue I had and not specific to slavery. That said, the history books they had when I was a kid were way better than the anti-american crap they give kids now.

In high school, it wasn’t as awkward because the class was 50-75% black. But there were certain words that the teacher and certain students just seemed too happy to say. Idiots. College, was better because we took a different type of history class that didn't have to bring back up the slave days thankfully. I get sicka hearing bout that shit. People could move past a lot if they werent forced to talk about this shit over and over

You’re more likely to find an idiot or bot responding to this question as if they were black. Like this guy.

It was alright , the only time I had a us history teacher that said the civil war was about state rights instead of slavery. I looked at him weird and moved on with my day.

The civil war happened for multiple reasons (including slavery), not just 1. The south was especially upset that Abraham Lincoln wasn't on the ballot in the South yet he still won the election.

History books changed a lot between the time I was in high school and the early 2000s. They started slipping in stuff to paint the U. S. as an evil country without saying negative stuff about other countries.

@hahahmm I was confused as to why we spent an entire semester teaching kids who can’t even name the continents about slavery

@opinon owner, yeah that's not right. There's definitely an agenda to destroy the country but a lot of fools can't see it. Some people of all races are against it tho.
