As we have progressed throughout the decades and centuries do you think we are now more stupider as a society than pervious generations, why, why not?

I often hear people of the past were less educated, lacked knowledge etc but people of the past had strong common sense though I think.

There was a period between maybe the 50s-90s where ordinary people were better educated & smarter but the powers that be decided to change this and dumb the populace down.

What is the purpose behind the school system?

1. It's a babysitting service for average people who are parents to go out to work. So larger taxbase which also pays for schools.

2. It provides just enough education for average children to be able to work in a factory environment.

3. It prepares kids for working in a factory enough. Turn up & leave at a certain time punching a clock. Do mindles monotonous work.

4. It's a great place to spread government approved ideology that parents may not approve of.

5. A great place for military conscription & recruitment.

6. It reinforces societal conformity.

College goes further because it promotes mindless ideology & stupidity about anything and anybody who can sign a student loan no matter how stupid can attend college for four years.

The more stupid the population the easier they are to manipulate and control. Spend $300 on Air Jordans that cost 30 cent to make in a factory in china

People in the past didn't have the mass brain Washing tools we have nowadays called media. There were thinkers and people followed their guts. People had a lot of experience. Children werent getting their childhood wasted in schools learning how to measure a square. They were becoming men and father's very early and going to war. Learning how to be a bread winner working hard jobs. They were honed by life. When a man was a professional warrior at 18 and already married and have 3 children. The 18 years old today is working at mcdonalds to by ps5. We are getting stunted on purpose both physically and mentally by the system. People with mother with called in the system. I'm not sure "more stupider" is the right combination of words. Today's generation does have much more information available to it, which is part of the problem, because we often don't know what to do with all that data, which can look stupid at times.

In the past, people knew less, but were probably better at using the information they had.

We’re at an interesting juncture. We have one of the most highly educated but over-specialized, myopic elites in history that are collectively incompetent. These elites have dumbed down education to the masses so they get just enough to make them easily propagandized. Pretty grim.

@Exterminatore Certainly arrogant to the point of hubris. But overspecialization is a huge problem too, especially given horrible, weak leadership. Rule by experts is horrible. We saw this during the pandemic, when epidemiologists were unleashed without any consideration for economics, law, moral reasoning, supply chains/logistics, psychology, etc. What resulted was a socially and educationally stunted generation of children, huge transfer of wealth to the elite, starvation abroad, and supply chain distruptions. I believe if a real leader had assembled a council of experts from different disciplines and made the decisions himself after weiging all facets of the problem, the outcome would have been much better.

Looking back now, if you think about it, all this crap started under Obama. When he announced his run for the presidency in early 2008, hordes of people were convinced he was the second coming of Jesus Christ. But what troubled me was that he very clearly, plainly and obviously hated this country with every fiber of his being. In Berlin, the angry exclamation of, 'First we're gonna change America, and then we're gonna change the world!' A few years later, in Mexico, 'If you want revenge, vote', Then there was the Russian collusion scam, hatched by two sore losers who couldn't handle the message that millions of people sent them.
