Are humans generally becoming more stupid based on your observations?

I think it depends on how we define "stupid". My grandfather from the WW2 era doesn't know that much. He doesn't have a scientific mindset and he struggles with a computer. He's not even well-read even though books were a popular form of entertainment at the time. But he started his own business from rock bottom starting from door-to-door to expanding his business and owning half the land in the city, took care of a large family, and maintained a sense of integrity, discipline, and a positive mental outlook in spite of seeing the horrors of WW2 as a paratrooper.
And I think it's very easy for young people to look at a guy like my grandfather and think he's a bit daft not knowing things a simple Google search away. I see him as brilliant. But I would ask what they have made of their own lives to judge such a man. I see a large contrast between the theoretical vs. practical and a bit too much hastiness, especially in younger people these days, to throw the term "stupid" around recklessly.
Whether or not people are getting dumber these days depending on how we define it, I think there's a tendency with the availability of mass information at our fingertips for more young people to think they are smarter than they actually are. The general trend I find is hyper-inflated egos more than anything else with newer generations. I find more people these days who think they have professional knowledge in a field like medicine because they read a few internet papers and skimmed to the conclusion without even understanding or properly reading half the paper as an example.
Only true idiots want others to do the thinking for them, not because there is any threat to thinking one way or another but out of laziness. Especially those who give that task to the state.
There are theories as to how it is inevitable that societies grow authoritarian no matter how free they began and will eventually collapse because a society can't function without the people constantly getting killed for thinking for themselves. With that I think it is possible that people get more and more stupid as time goes on unless we do something about it.
Yes, of course. One moron on this thread pointed to anti-vaxxers as being stupid. LOL
Another idiot pointed to Republicans.
The truth is, natural selection and survival of the fittest, are long gone, and no longer apply.
Brawn was what once put roast beast on the table, but later in the centuries, brawn was replaced by brains.
Now you no longer need either, because the government stepped in and solved that.
Now you can be a lump of shit, and still have 18 kids.
Everyone should watch this movie. It explains it all.
This question reminds me of a meme I read yesterday. It said that 40 years ago, a new car manual gave directions for things like how to adjust the valves. The owners manual today is much smaller and gives a warning to not drink the battery acid.
Also, order a pizza and when it arrives, look at the box. Sign says, :" CARDBOARD! DO NOT EAT!"
Yes. Apparently, people are getting dumber. Signs like this would offend a person with at least average intelligence. Nobody is complaining.
Wow. That's scary.

civilization has 3 phases: every society goes through these 3 phases with no exceptions
1. barbarism; we commit genocide to establish the norms of society
2. stability: we live off the fruits of violence and enjoy our lives. but the memory of violence is clear so we understand consequences
3. decadence: we live in an extremely safe world and we forget consequences so we start doing things more and more removed from sanity. our institutions wither and people seek hedonism above all else
we are in the 3rd phase of civilization now
No I think humans are become to comfortable especially in the west, We have every thing a human can dream of so we make up issue like trangenderism. Do you really think people living in Vietnam or Afghanistan or Africa care if someone wants to be a women? If a man wanted to be a women they would be dead end of story.
It heavily depends on what we call "stupid". If we talk about amount of knowledge, then no. There are too many sources to ignore them, besides the sheer amount of knowledge gets bigger day by day. If we talk about the ability to use received knowledge and transfer it into experience, then it's true. The surplus of notions and processes people know today can overshadow the necessary knowledge about basic spheres.
"Stupid" means someone having poor judgment. A person can have all sorts of knowledge from world history, science but still has major common sense difficulties.
We have cancel culture, hyped political correctness, giving away your country to foreigners, next social challenge on who's gonna dare to do something very stupid to get views on social media etc.
Poor judgement is subjective and depends on the POV that you take. Statistically, the world is more developed today, so there are more chances for poor judgement to take place. Still, the extensive way to enlarge the field of mistakes and bad calls isn't equal to stupidity.
No, poor judgement isn't subjective. Common sense has to matter. A person laying down on train tracks seeing a train approaching is a idiot.
I can exaggerate an example as well, but that's not the point of it. Every person sees things within common sense differently based on education, upbringing etc.
Doesn't have to be extreme examples. Anything that brings you pain and set backs by your own doing is obviously a wrong decision being made to bring such consequences.
You're overly trying to complicate something when it isn't. Society is obviously getting dumber and dumber in particular the youth.
It works only when your choice is between good and bad. Which is not always the case. But I c ur point.
Paradigm. People don't do what they know how to do because of the paradigm but that's not what we're talking about here. People are "stupid" because their paradigm controls their perception and logic which by the way means judgement is subjective @Hispanic-Cool-Guy @AngelMegumin. Rich people tell you to put all your eggs in 1 basket and poor people tell you to put them in multiple baskets. So to one side you will have poor judgement and may be considered an idiot. The issue is culture and the paradigm.
Our subconscious mind is amoral and 100% deductive. So if you make people believe blowing up a building is in the name of God that very belief will control their logic and perception.
You are mistaking lack common sense for the paradigm. Our belief systems are amoral and 100% deductive. So they will believe literally anything. If you instill a crappy culture in there then that is what you will express. Culture is the issue because it is molding the paradigm of the young and old but mostly young.
Antivax people see other antivax people die from covid and their minds still find a way to protect their belief. They say it is the machines that killed the man. Look the only control you have is the decision you make to get the vaccine or not get it. Stop blaming the machines. If you know about the machines rn and you choose not to get the vaccine then don't blame the machines if you get covid and are on deaths door. Classic victim mentality. But I only have that view because I bought into a culture an ex navy seal was selling about victim mentality. Otherwise that whole last paragraph doesn't exist in my comment. Without that I may say YEAH the machines are the issue. And maybe the machines need to be better but they still choose not to get the vaccine and in doing so opened the door to death in some cases. Now is that good judgement? and you see how that is subjective. Not the greatest example but it's all I got for now.
Most certainly. But more to the point, it is far more acceptable to be a useless degenerate profligate than it used to be. People have gone from regarding certain standards as essential to everyday life... to regarding them as fancy things for special occasions, to the point where they're actually condescending and mocking towards others with higher intelligence or proper standards. Anti-Intellectualism is at an all-time high.
Humans are beyond stupid at this point, they are literally the walking fucking dead.
I think the gap between the intelligent and the stupid is becoming wider.
I think that the majority of the population are lazy sheep... I don't think that human over all are declining in intelligence, I just think that most people would rather believe what they are told instead of thinking for them selves.
They've shown that humans are becoming physically and mentally slower by comparing studies of reaction times from 1900 to 2000. About ten iq points have been lost.
I wouldn't say stupid I believe it's laziness.. the internet makes it where people don't have to use their mind like they should...
The divide between the educated and the uneducated is growing wider. There are a number of reasons for this. Some are environmental, who you grew up with for parents. If they have set values, you tend to learn from those values, good or bad.
Uneducated doesn't make you stupid. Plenty of uneducated millionaires. Henry Ford was uneducated and they took him to court to make fun of it and guess what he showed them. Edison was kicked out of school for being too slow. The list goes on and on right into modern day. Only poor people think you have to go to school to become rich. Stupid and uneducated are 2 different things. #YoungerAndWiser
@PoliteSpeaker Absolutely!! That doesn't alter the fact that fewer people choose to continue with their education. There are specific cases where people were not highly educated but were successful, however, for each case there was someone or some others that did have a higher education to help them achieve their goals.
well depends on ignorance and pride.
some people are ignorant and they have no desire to learn or change and their ignorance leads them to racism and racism leads to stupidity.
Meh... I think we're just exposed to more of the stupid than before. This is probably the same caliber of stupid though.
Stats show general education rises y2y but there is a wave of anti intellectualism concerning scientists.
Certainly more arrogant, narcissistic, and fearful as exemplified by anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers
No, those who classify people as idiots are a bigger idiot.
Republicans certainly are. (Refer to the last 5 years for details)
No, We we were always this stupid.
They sure are
