Why do drivers never say thank you when you help them out?

I've never understood what's so hard about just saying a simple thank you when someone let's you go past or waits for you to drive by. People just drive past without a thank you and it's bizzare to me. Do they feel higher up than the people letting them go, or could it just be simply forgetting? Maybe people might take this as a small reminder and remember to thank others. A small actions can go a long way. Enjoy your day!
