The parents should get to decide actually. People can't understand consequences until they're 18, but some need drugs younger.

There are good reasons to do this. Kids are overprescribed these drugs. What kid is not depressed? You get forced to spend your whole day in a building where teachers, other kids and administrators make your life a living hell. I worked in a K-12 school district and the school nurse had a whole cabinet full of prescription medications. The kids would go to the nurse and the nurse would hand out the drugs if the kid was scheduled for some. This is done to make kids docile.
However it should be left up to the parents and the kids physician.

No because I don’t think legislators should be practicing medicine. I think medical organizations should formulate guidelines that are evidenced based and that medical professionals should adhere to those guidelines.

Okay so what is a serious situation? Like for antidepressants specifically, don't even worry about like painkillers or birth control or any of that shit. Just for antidepressants what would make it a serious enough situation that the kid would be allowed to take drugs to see if they help?
