Many Hispanics are immigrants or in the first couple generations of immigrants. These people have few starting resources or education compared to your average American, meaning they often get hired to manual labor positions or other low paying jobs. You'll probably see these numbers change over the next few decades as more Hispanic people in the US reach higher levels of education and gain higher-paying employment.
the rich have been using hispanics as cheap labor for decades... who owns businesses... people like george bush who's on the board of over 50 businesses
@chrissykerdock sadly this. I am a hard core Republican, but it is amazing how the Wall Street Journal greedhead types in the GOP just *don't get it* on this issue. To paraphrase Lenin, "When the time comes to hang the capitalists, they will have imported the underclass mob with which to do it..."

I'm not a student of this subject, so I cannot speak to it with numbers and charts, but I see what I see, so I'll chime in.
I've been seeing a fair number of Hispanics taking advantage of entrepreneurism in recent times in the U. S. and they are succeeding in many instances. Good for them. I mean, really good for them. I'm glad that there are people who can see that the U. S. is the land of opportunity.
Not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship, so there will be hardworking people who run the gamut from low or no skilled to being professionals in a chosen field, no matter their ethnicity.
If people can make the leap to acquiring skills that demand better compensation, then they will.
It might be similar to the influx of Europeans to the U. S. in the late 1800s. There was a lot of poverty among those immigrants for extended periods of time before many or most were able to make the best of what the U. S. has to offer.
Props to those hard-working Hispanic people. I wish them and all hard-working people the best.
Sadly the maxim to "Work smarter, not harder" applies here. We have moved to a more and more skills based economy, and those unskilled are falling behind no matter how brawny.
And NO, this is not saying that they are inevitably unskilled, but in their socioeconomic background that is typically the case, at least among those immigrating into the USA.
And this was also true with many prior waves of unskilled White groups (Irish, Polish, Italian, etc.), but at least in the past one could make a good living and the more brawny occupations like, say, construction labor. Not as much today.
Like any group of people, there are hard workers and lazy workers. The number of hours worked is not a good indicator of how hard they work, just how long they work. Germany at the bottom of the graph is proof of that... Germans are very efficient in their work. take only the time needed to get the job done.
Case in point. I was in San Juan PR once and observed a work crew repairing a pothole. One guy was tamping the asphalt while 4 other guys stood and watched him. 2 hours later, the same group was still working on the pothole, same situations as before... 1 plus 4. That's 5 guys working 2 hours or 10 man-hours for one pothole... and that was definitely not a group working hard.
I think one thing is the way their society gathers together. In North America, you can get promoted if you have good verbal skills, social skills, and take care of your body and appearance but in Mexico, you are generally doing manual labour for income, because other methods of growth are not so easy or possible for you and those who have other methods of income have monopolies because others can't replace them by getting the same skill sets through school and education. In America, people like Priscilla Chan with poor parents can get scholarships to Harvard but in Mexico, it's not so easy.
Look at Hollywood with the union strikes happening right now. The showcase face of the industry can't afford healthcare insurance in the industry that makes billions. The top to medium end executives that only become name worthy after sexual abuse scandals or extended stays at epstein island.
The richest can only get richer and the poorest can only get poorer. This is why we need unions wherever they can organize.
Yeah but You unions are controlled opposition or otherwise known as useful idiots. And they are like the IRS They kick a chunk out your paycheck
@Cuminginside nothing is free. If anything it should be called an investment strategist. A peasant uprising turns into an army with a good general.
Do you really trust unions to me there's just another corporate hack
@Cuminginside you got to trust something in life beyond yourself to have any meaningful relationship with life.
Oh bro - it's the broken system and rigged economy that is stopping them from thriving. It doesn't make sense that so many people work so hard yet have to worry about how they will make ends meet. It doesn't make sense that people are kept in poverty when there are plenty of resources to go around that could help lift them up. It's not fair and it needs to change.
Well, Hispanics aren't monolithic. But a good number of Hispanic immigrants are sending as much money as they can back to their families in their home countries. That means they have to minimize living expenses. And someone who is starting a business often also needs to live below their means while they are getting their business up and running.
They work hard in low-value jobs. If you can be easily replaced, you'll never make much money. Someone doing a job that 100 other guys could do on a moment's notice isn't worth much pay to an employer. Someone who knows how to make a business consistently profitable is worth a fortune.
Some are one or the other rather than both. For those who are both, and this goes for anyone irrespective of race:
1. Low skilled
2. Poor career choice.
3. A lot of high interest debt.
4. Lots of children.
5. Poor spending habits. (I know people who pull $250K+ who are always broke because of this one).
Others can add more reasons
because people take advantage of them and dont pay them properly, i worked at a glass factory full of cubans and the company would constantly take advantage of rhem because many aren't legal
They simply don't get paid as much in Mexico. That's the answer. Still, even in the U. S., I don't believe you can just rely just on working hard to really get ahead. You need to have some Specialized Skill or service that people are willing to pay more for.
Never noticed how rich people don't do anything except steal the money of the hard worker?
My dad is very rich. He owns two businesses and he’s a hard worker too
Yeah but how does he pay his employees.
Hard work only gets you so far. You get better pay for more value added knowledge and skills. Dosent matter how many plates you wash or lawns you mow, you'll never get on in life. You needs skills that others don't have.
They live in all these shithole countries with corrupt communist governments.
Either communist or corrupt not that there's really a distinction
They don't make that much and they have giant families to support. Sometimes more than one
A lot of their money goes to family. A lot of Hispanics have bigger family units.
Could it be they spend their money on lowrider cars and drugs?
a lot of us have humongous families which means more mouths to feed. not all of us of course but most of us love to waste our money on stupid shit
Hispanics don't suffer from extreme poverty at least not even close to many.
Extreme poverty means you don't even have nothing to eat or wear or rather wear rags.
@hispanic-cool-guyThis can probably be very true in Mexico though. How about the seasonal workers that come to the US to pick fruit and other crops. I'm sure they don't make a whole lot of money yet are instrumental in getting your food to market, yet they themselves have very little.
@YesterdaysChild: Material stuff don't mean much as this stupid world thinks.
It's all about eating.
Well, I guess in their job it is "all you can eat" as a bonus.
@YesterdaysChild: As long as you are eating that's good enough. Trust me on that.
Cars and houses don't mean nothing. It's all vanity trash you are going to lose anyways.
You definitely won't be taking it with you at the Rapture.
Probably colourblindness that goes with dark eyes.
I think it gets administered to illegitimate children (out of wedlock or when there are more than gets legally allowed)
Maybe all the cartels and trash can institutions similar to them steal their dues.
Because they do menial jobs for minimum wage or less.
Because nobody gives them a chance to expand in other fields. Prejudicism is an awful shame.
do you mean in their country or as immigrants? the answer is different
They took our jobs!
