Its complicated because people become mature at different ages. I think 18 though common is too old - many people (certainly not all) are sexually active a few years before then and the tremendous illegality associated with that is a risk to everyone.

Maybe a lot of old societies had the right idea with a coming of age ceremony - we could modify that into a sort of test that you are ready to be responsible

In the US, the legal age of consent in most states is 18, and I agree with that.

I was with older guys when I was young and I enjoyed it and I'm still glad I did it now. Guys of all ages start looking at you when you're 12 so they're not thinking about any age of consent.

In UK it's 16. Seems about right. Anything younger seems early, anything later seems unworkable.
