Recently, a media company I work for has come under fire for contracting content that turned out to be AI generated.
Since then, all the company’s other brands have cracked down on writers using AI, and as it turns out, I found out that a good deal of my naturally written content is flagged as partially AI, according to the popular detector tools. Thankfully, our editors are aware that these detectors are flawed and tend to punish content that is human written when polished and error free, so they’re starting to relax.
Still, we’re being advised against using it and encouraged to give extra (human) insight to our work. Many media companies and contractors fear that AI content doesn’t rank in google, but I’m finding out on my own that it definitely can rank and quickly too, but the content has to be highly valuable with human perspective that shows industry expertise.
I believe AI tools can greatly assist writers and enhance content, but writers shouldn’t lean on it completely for generating the whole piece. I hope that companies and businesses will come around to realizing this instead of buying into the fear mongering that it’s going to collapse society.
What are your thoughts on the way AI is shaping web content?
I think your synopsis is about right. Spelling and grammar checkers aren't exactly world threatening but are very useful. Tools to aide ready comprehensibility are likewise.
However AI generated content has potential to be problematic. In the Russo-Ukraine war I saw a lot of blatantly false content on Australian F18's being in service in Ukraine. There were a lot of giveaways but there was a short segment of an F18 with Captain Dewey stenciled under the cockpit. How many Captain Dewey's are there in the Ukraine air force I wondered?
That was done for clicks and revenue doubtless but if it was done for malevolent reasons at moments of international tension there is potential for bad stuff to happen. It could be human generated but another attribute of AI is volume & scalability so a lot of it could be generated fast.
I haven't thought this out a lot but have a think on it. All content should have digital signature associated with it and a checksum to show if the content has changed since last signed. Both human and AI generated content so the provenance is known.
If not so digitally signed and checksummed we know the content is bullshit. If signed and checksummed with MzAsh as the last creator of it then we know, since she is highly reliable, we take some credence in it. if signed and checksummed by ChatGPT only, we know it is untouched by human thought.
All recorded on a block chain so it is unalterable.
It might be lies and damned lies but we at least have provenance on it.
I think Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity. All it's going to do is drive people away from online content and back to reading books written before 1992.
I'm more worried about how much like the robots in "I Robot" look like Elon's latest offering...
As published author, I think A. I. is killing art. Aside from plagiarism, there's the problem with A. I. generated reviews that regurgitate book blurbs and completely munge them, therefor giving an impression of your book being something else ENTIRELY, and the problem of fake ratings flattening the average so that your fantastic book is rated the same as a crap one, because everything gets a neutral score. This is problematic because ratings are all algorithmic as well, so it's throwing everything off and burying your art in noise so that readers can't actually find what they're looking for.
I was getting worried about AI until the writer's strike ended. People are fighting back against the dystopian future we've seen in the movies. So, I feel like humanity will not exploit this tech as much as Wall-E or the Matrix expected us to
We are just in infant stages of AI and look at the reactions it's having, and this is not true AI sure it can process tons of info and organize it spot patterns faster and a bit more better than a human, but itb only knows what it's feed, like your lap top is only as functional as what you feed it, it's a step in right direction far as becoming autonomous and functional on it's own but, will take at least another 25,30 years to truly have an AI that is capable of becoming close to consciousness, and it will be in couple decades, within the next 10 to 15 years quantum computers will be fully online and, and together with AI and VI, it will be a world you wouldn't recognize today, but right now people areb just like kids with a new toy, exploring what is capabilities are, and if course there are those who will put this to their own devious use, m not sure if anyone is familiar with çrisper, it's like white out for DNA literally copy and paste, remove alter genes not just in humans but most anything, we are entering into the most critical time of our existence, where it's 50/50 we survive over the next 50 years, so many other, there's much most don't know anyway as the fascination over AI fades that's when it's real capabilities will be evident, I don't see AI as Threat but in not to distant future less than 120 years things will come to a head as we the creators will have to face the fact that humans will be humbled and must that's far down the road, right now it's becoming more difficult to distinguish what's real or not who's real or fake see how it goes the past is unchangeable, future is always changing
I'll use AI, because I have an issue with my tendons that makes trying to render a majority of things particularly well by hand nearly impossible. And because I don't want EA to steal my ideas, as they would if I used The Sims to make everything.
However, I always run the results through Photoshop. I tweak it to make the results more original, and correct the AI's mistakes. I'll usually change the colors a bit too.

The world I've built around her mythology has become far too important - and potentially commercially viable - to me, to leave her to just some video game.
This... wasn't cutting it.
Now, when I need concept art for the project, I have something much, much better. She looks almost like she could've existed in the MCU, back when it was worth watching.
I had some schooling in journalism, but mostly I just started blogging on my own, learned best practices for writing articles, and then started submitting some of them into digital publishing companies. I submitted quite a few for free for a while until I could build a resume qualified for paid gigs, and then on to staff writer positions with more reputable media outlets.
I can't stand all the robo-voice videos out there!! they're so fucking annoying!! They get LOADS of information wrong or just can't pronounce words correctly!! I was just watching one a few hours ago, it mentioned Leonard Nimoy and kept referring to him as "she" and "her"!! I didn't know Vulcans could swap gender at a moments notice!
I imagine that very soon there will be entire jobs that will be taken over by AI. Not just writers but attorneys, accountants and therapists will all be done by machine. The concern is that there has to be somebody that programs the machines. Somebody has to develop the algorithms. There is a real danger in this.
AI can't even handle incoming phone calls. I get the feeling that AI right now makes more human errors than actual humans.
Even if AI becomes as good as humans and fakes web content, all one needs is common sense to see through those fabricated contents pretty much like bored user questions.
@noemiii I am well aware of it. George Carlin did mention how stupid the average human is and then to imagine half of the people are even dumber than that.
For me personally its just a tool. When presenting an opinion I'd want it to be as human and personal as possible coz it must represent what I mean. But when talking something professional or lets just say something fake i use AI tools to help me through that bs to save time coz in the end i just want my point being conveyed as neutral and positive as possible which might take some time without AI.
I'm 100% against it. And you should be as well. Mark my words. If you them (the cyborgs) an inch, they'll take a mile. If you allow even a LITTLE bit of AI to be accepted in writing, it will eventually take over completely. And you will be unemployed.
It’s a bad thing for creativity and ideas etc, as LLM is not real AI. It also have a really malevolent side as well. Everything from fake news to fake reviews. Personally it is really bad and needs tightly controlled.
Boring. Soon we'll understand that images and video may or may not be real, and stop getting excited because someone's face was included in a picture of an unclothed body.
@slatyb. No many, AI is rapidly maturing. Very soon you will not be able to tell the difference between a real human and an AI generated person. This will absolutely kill Only Fans and Tik Thots. AI programers will be able to capture all the $8.99/month simps. This may actually force women to become human again.
I think Biden is an AI robot that is malfunctioning, especially in the ability to walk straight without tripping, or spinning in circles and not knowing which way to walk off stage. 😂🤣
It is slowly destroying websites like this one. People are just copying and pasting opinions. I see it on here every day, and they regularly receive MHO points for it.
At the moment AI is just generating word salad, but when it becomes more sophisticated it will be indistinguishable from actual human content, which is why no one should be using it.
