Why are our public schools failing to produce well educated people?

• Public schools are expected to manage every student, from the smartest, to the most academically challenge, form the best behaved to the worst. It's hard to cater education to an individual when you have such a wide range of people to deal with.
• They never have enough money. We literally bought things like tissues and hand sanitzer for our schools because they didn't have the money to buy it themselves. Teachers are underpaid and often have to work second jobs or take on extra responsibilities in order to pay their bills. On top of they, they do a ton of work outside of hours to actually learn about and manage their course content.
• Standardization. We try to produce "measurable" responses in order to guarantee quality of education across schools, states, etc, meaning student education becomes focused on testing rather than reasoning, logic, and critical thinking. The skills you need to be well-educated in the world are not the skills you need to pass a test, but there's no way to check if schools are succeeding in real-world education so we go for testing instead.
• Lack of motivation for the students. Most students don't need what they learn in high school. Trig isn't useful. English class isn't all that efficient in teaching critical thinking and writing. And your music appreciation class? I'm going to guess you didn't walk away appreciating music all that much more than before. Because we want to guarantee that every student is getting the same education we have to find a way to educate students that are going in vastly different directions, which means making compromises. We teach kids things that don't even seem useful to them unless they're planning to go to college, which means they don't care, so they don't try.

• Personally I think we should play more strongly into education "pathways" (aka more trade school-like education at the high school level) while allowing college-bound or potentially college-bound kids to stick with a more traditional education. Allowing students to work through the lense of practicality may encourage them to be more serious. (Ex. instead of trig, teach applied mathematics in construction and instead of English teach technical writing and political analysis)

Because too many students have an anti-education mindset. Most of the time it's a family trait. These students are often disruptive or slowdown lessons dragging those around them down.

My feelings about why are public schools being a failure. It's because they're separating and causing chaos in the child's minds instead of teaching them the principles of Reading writing and mathematics along with history they'll throw in their own screwy ideas of separating children to different Genders, besides male and female. There are only two types of genders in this world male and female. The screwy teachers need to stop teaching their stupid ideas and stick with a basic task of education. They're not to brainwash our children and thinking of other things of creating a new gender society.

Part of the 60's Leftist vision was to control teacher unions and dictate curricula and methods. Leftist Propaganda. They understood that if they adequately brainwashed children, they would capture and change out culture. This is proving true.

The only this will be resolved is:
1. School Choice.
2. Charter Schools. and...
3. Ultimately outlaw public sector unions; particularly teacher unions in grades K to 12. DeSantis will do that. I don't think Trump will.

They have a monopoly. Yes there are private schools but most people cannot afford them. This creates monopoly and there is no competition therefore no incentive to put out a good product. The teachers union is not interested in education. They are trying to push the communist ideals on students and to get raises for all the members even as test scores have plummeted.

18 states have implemented school choice. Parents can get the per pupil cost of educating somebody in the public schools and use that money towards tuition at a private school. This creates competition and gives public school teachers the incentive to create a more conducive atmosphere for learning.

We elected a new governor who hired a new head of the dept of Education who said they will "reimagine education with equity as it's focal point." That means everything will be dumbed down and kids will be taught how evil whitey is.

It's 1 to 1 funding by property tax. So poor areas get low school funding. Then rich areas get high funding.

Make it a bit of a lottery. Super rich could pay 10x going into poverty areas schools tax rate (still lower then their local property tax) but it is tax money going as far away from the payer. We still need to avoid destroying rich areas so this is a cute way to even things out.

in my opinion the problem is the teachers unions. They make it very difficult to get rid of bad teachers. The second thing it that since the 1950's, they kicked God out of the schools. From what I've heard, before that time public school teachers started each day with Christian prayer and used examples from the Holy Bible to teach lessons. Know God, Know peace. No God, no peace.

They are controlled by corrupt teacher's unions and not parents, though having them controlled by parents nowadays wouldn't do any good because the parents grew up poorly educated and so did their parents. We're on the third full generation of that now, making it irreversible.

Because they don’t teach, they indoctrinate. Unfortunately this problem rests halfly on the Republicans’ shoulders. If they had increase pay for teachers to a reasonable level, the schools could be selective in their hiring practices. Now schools are filled with loser leftists willing to work for $40k a year.

School is about crafting a social order and shaping generations towards the aims of the ruling elite. Some learning happens but the goal is not self-actualization and mind expansion. You want an education, live life.

Because the teachers are too fucking woke, the students mostly only care about what's going on on their little toy phones and in their underwear and the school boards are way too strict with the teachers!

Because they actually are kid/teen day care centres. Not centres for learning. Even colleges and universities are more centres for making money and getting tenure, than teaching.
