Nostalgia is real. Its a feeling. Its things you look fondly upon remembering.
You could argue "now" is always better, but thats subjective and a lot of people will disagree with you. To give an example, the original Pokemon show ran on TV from 1997-2023. It ended earlier this year. And shortly after, a brand new Pokemon show started. You could argue the brand new show is better, maybe you turn out to technically be right, but it lacks the magic ingredient of being a show I have followed most of my life, a show I have been following since I was a kid and followed for over 20 years. New kids might have the same feelings for the new show that I felt for the final seasons of the old one, if the new one lasts that long that is, but because of this thing called nostalgia, I'm not going to feel the same way for the new show.
It's not what it used to be, but these days things are really getting significantly worse (again, like they did in the 1930s).

Nostalgia is this history after a couple drinks
Maybe it never existed as we remember, but if our recollection of it brings us enjoyment, how's it different than watching a movie that's also not about us?
As bad as 2020 was , now it seems like the good old days.
To a degree. Nostalgia makes you feel that the past is better than it actually is but it usually is better.
