Why are US laws so messed up?

And because of laws he escaped criminal charges due to statute of limitations, how is there a timeline on a crime that can destroy another person from the time of the crime until death it's unfadable to me that you can rob a bank get caught on camera so it's clear evidence of you doing it and stay in hiding for years and than ride in your new ferrari outside the police station holding a bag of money because it's not illegal anymore due to statute of limitations.

If they haven't brought charges against someone in a set period of time, 3 years or 5 years or whatever, then it's not fair to that person having to try to come up with evidence that far back to defend themselves. The laws are to protect innocent people who are wrongly accused. There's plenty of time before the statute of limitations runs out to prosecute the guilty people.

But shouldn't there be any flexibility like if your caught on a camera shooting say a 4 year old for example what evidence could your lawyer make to defend that? I would say it's not fair to the parents of that child he shoot to not get justice when all the evidence for a conviction is clear but because of statute of limitations he's okay to live his life while the parents lives are destroyed (I'm just throwing out an hypothetical crime)
