What your thoughts on Trump's January 6th indictment?

Like all current Trump indictments (and any future ones possibly on the table that we know of), this is where the rubber meets the road. We’re no longer in the court of public opinion, we’re in a court of LAW. All the bluster and saying whatever you want to have the crowd on your side is out the window. Nothing will matter going forward other than the facts. Only facts will hold up in a courtroom, no matter which side is armed with them. If you’re confident this is a witch hunt, you should be SALIVATING for the opportunity to expose all the targeted injustice. This is it, this is the big chance. Twitter or Truth Central aren’t legitimate venues, you can say pretty much anything you want and all that matters is if the person reading it believes it, but everyone testifying in that courtroom will be doing so under penalty of perjury, so you can’t just say whatever sounds strongest for your argument.

Charges can’t be brought up willy-nilly, either. These cases had to be presented to grand juries, who decided the prosecution presented a strong enough case to warrant a trial. You don’t just get to say “I don’t like Donald Trump, so I accuse him of murder most foul!”, and drag him through the thorns, that’s not how the American justice system works. If anything, I’d say the January 6th stuff might be the hardest case to prove just in the sense that they’d need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump KNEW he was lying about the election being stolen. I can only speculate, we’ll have to wait for the facts to come out in the trial, they’re not going to just announce it to the public along with the indictment, but my feeling is that the DOJ wouldn’t come if they weren’t coming correct. They know they’ll look like absolute assholes if they show up with a flimsy case. If it was iffy, I don’t think they set themselves up for the embarrassment of an acquittal. My sense is that they have most of everything alleged in the Congressional hearings from last summer, plus much more damning evidence. I think they got a lot of people to flip on him….. and all of you who defended these people as warriors for a good cause, remember you said that, because I’m not going to hear it when for the umpteenth time you’re flip-flopping on who’s good and who’s bad based on their support of whatever Trump is trying to pull. Again, the rubber has met the road and all the bullshit is out the window. Trump, Giuliani, John Eastman, Roger Stone…. this is where we find out for sure what the lies were and what the truth was. Completely fabricated stories or reasonings won’t hold water in this venue. And the jury won’t be Joe Biden and the big scary Democrats, it’ll be a panel of American citizens who will ultimately decide. I’m sure people will make wild accusations of some sort of rigging of the jury or the trials, but if we’re just going to live in the world of “the fix is in on literally everything that doesn’t benefit us”, I just can’t take the folks with those attitudes as serious people, they’re just Trump fanboys and fangirls who have tethered themselves to supporting him for whatever reason, and they’ll just blindly defend him whether they have supporting facts or not.

This will for sure be the most interesting cases if anything from last summer’s hearings are admissible. But if you like Trump, you should be STOKED if you’re as confident in his innocence as you claim to be, because all the stuff you say is silly or is outright false will be laughed out of court, if you’re right about it.

It's incredibly weak. Jack Smith already contradicted himself straight out of the gate and torpedoed any chance of it going anywhere... In a fair trial anyway. Of the three indictments against Trump right now, this one is the weakest.

If that is going to be the standard for charges going forward though, then I look forward to upwards of 90% of current politicians at the federal level being dragged out in chains for equal and more egregious offenses, and I'd consider that not only an obligatory fairness, but a net win for the people.

Hinges on how well the evidence is with don knowing he was lying. Every action would be justifiable if there was one realistic example of evidence or even just flat out wrong or mistaken will be justifiable.

but if he knowing and proven beyond a reasonable doubt he lied, he's a tyrannical leader who tried overthrowing the government.
