Why is there tension between the black and Asian community in America?

Very different communities. Being a white American we have similarities with education and the family structure is different. Multiple women in my family abandoned their children to become prostitutes, and many men in my family have been incarcerated. Asian communities are much different.

Depends on what context. Overall, different histories, geographies, struggles, old v. new immigration, and experience with success make the communities different. Black Americans have come here for the most part against their will with slavery, suffered generational racism that led to their current experience with generational economic and voter suppression. Asian American have a broken immigrations, one was the old rail road labor one and then there was a long ban before the 60s Civil Rights movement created an opportunity for re-immigration of the cream of the crop of Asian societies. New Asian immigrants were picked for their wealth and education to come here and quickly achieved success creating the model minority myth. Both brown and yellow Asians who came from the 60s on were already quite well to do or had a lot of promise which is why they were selected, they did well in education and then the East Asians took their colonial white-is-right mentality to quickly align themselves to White Americans due to fairer skin. Asians have soft power, introverted cultures and they could not culturally relate to the struggles of the very people whose right for civil rights brought them to this country - Black Americans. There lies the divide. Now it is playing out in the fight over Affirmative Action when some Asians are working with White Americans to say that the few places Black Americans take in the Ivy Leagues is unfair to Asians who have to have better grades than everyone to get into the Ivies. In reality, the most places unfairly taken (with bad grades) from Asians is taken by White Americans. I went to the Ivies with many idiot legacy students and none were Black. I am Asian American.

Targeting white Americans is going to score points with leftists, and there is no downside to it. That's why you're doing it.

And a disproportionate number of black students at the Ivies are from the West Indies or Africa.

Blacks are 15.3% of the class. That's hardly a "few places".

@Avicenna And more than 40% are legacy with lower grades than the rest. 70%+ of the legacy student group were white. So my point stands.

Could also be whites and Hispanics who aren't wealthy and aren't legacy students or athletes who are being discriminated against. And we're to believe from your comments that it's only white legacies who are dumb and shouldn't be there. Is it possible that some of the legacy admits are also qualified?

While I agree that legacy admissions should be abolished, it's not clear that the places being taken from Asians are all being taken by white legacy admits.

@Avicenna non rich, non legacy whites are not taking places from anyone. they make a small minority of the student group just like Asians and blacks. the people who take the most seats are rich white legacy students. they take spots of all smart kids. I worked in Ivy league admissions
