In that scenario an explanation to the other person may be a better solution.

A coworker (who often shirks his own duties all the time and is often a busy body) asked me why I wasn't in my newly assigned post. I told him that I was asked by my boss to show someone how to do my previous position.

Could I have yelled at him and told him off, yes, he's left me to do several large projects all by myself when he was supposed to also be working on them. I decided it wasn't worth my time.

No one is responsible for your actions but you. They are not causing you to be an asshole. You are choosing to be one. Who do you want to be. That's all you have in this life. Don't take it for granted. Until we understand this our life isn't going to be what we truly want it in all aspects.

An eye for an eye is never okay. Don't add more darkness to the world.
