Not really? It depends how we are defining conservative though. The Ayatollah of Iran is obviously both highly authoritarian and highly conservative, communism by the necessity of the central party ends up being highly authoritarian but is is revolutionary/more or less anti-conservative.


So the two don’t inherently go together, though in the states with the religious fundamentalist undertones there is a trend towards being both conservative and authoritarian. Though the left in the states is just as authoritarian so y’all are pretty screwed in both directions right now tbh. The one thing both of your governing parties can agree on is benefitting themselves at the public’s expense.

No, not really because conservatism wants less government control. Both political sides have their authoritative bents, but the liberal side seems to inherently gravitate more towards authoritarianism for the simple fact that they believe in legislating things more.

Authoritarianism is definitely taking root in the American conservative movement today but throughout history it hasn’t been exclusive. The right has had fascism and theocracies while the left has communism.
