Consultants go around penny pinching and cutting inefficiencies. Consider that a CEO makes 500 times the median wage of average workers. Are they to believe that they are 500 times as productive? Consider a 2000 Cal. diet is about 1lb in DS of food, are we to believe CEOs consume 500 DS lbs of food daily?

I'd look at every single cost , including the CEO and the expertise that he/she bought to the table , at the end of the day I have not been hired by the CEO , I've been hired by the board and I report to the board , the board makes all final decisions , and there is a massive cost involved in removing a CEO , so I just report back all my findings , while letting my own contract run as long as possible..

Uh, likely no. The board elects the executive officers to run the company. That includes picking who to consult when it comes to staffing. That’s not to say they can’t, but it defeats the purpose of having executive officers. If you don’t like how your officers are running things, you fire them.

The Board always employs people like me , I answer to the Chair , that way all can be carefully scrutinized , and all costs analyses... including all pay scales , that's how its done , same with auditors.

Massive cost to removing a CEO? Their average tenure is 5 years. They job hop like crazy. And they have the balls to complain about “loyalty”? Leadership starts at the top. Trickles down. You say cost, I say savings because that’s money that goes back into the company’s earnings.

Look mate , I have done this kind of work throughout my life , as well as many other company related issues , there are all different structure for different companies and different countries..
If a CEO has a 2/3/4/5 year deal , that contact has to be paid out , thats expensive.
The only occasion where a board will generally remove a CEO is dishonesty or theft , poor decisions coming a lack lustered 3rd .
A truly great CEO is open and transparent and wants to be fully investigated , the same status applies to Trustees , in SMSF or larger run funds , but the role of auditor is to report impartially.
If for example the CEO was on 2mill PA , and the numbers showed that this was high for the Industry , comparable size etc ( just like a property valuation ) , this would be included in the report.

The toughest one is a founder ( and major shareholder ) is chairperson , he runs the place , but he may still have a CEO.

No. I'd make it look like I did my job. Truth is firing people is the best way to reduce costs in the short term, so it looks like you've save the company money but really you've got rid of some experienced well trained employees and your business will run inefficiently and ineffectively, to compensate you will need to subcontract the work which will cost you.

Also it's more important to look like you are in charge and know what your doing. That's why you see when a new boss takes over they try to shake things up, fire folks, do things differently.

Basically I'd convert CEO companies into co-ops.
