I am asking this question because my body doesn't thrive in new environment. I also don't do well without established support system. Holding everything else equal, I'd rather stay in my hometown of Sunnyvale, California than being miserable living in a new town, state, or country.

Yes it is always really hard to relocate to a different unfamiliar place from your hometown where you grew up and spent all these years...
But if you have no choice, like it's a job transfer or something you have to go... but eventually if you give it a week or two, your mind will calm down and slowly adapt
Else I would say it is better to not leave if it won't cost you much
@JackCarter I am willing to resign from a job requiring transfer because I know my body won't thrive in a new environment.

If you can stay at hometown itself without a risk to income then it's a good decision to not risk mental health!
